Peter (Jason Segel) is a struggling musician who finds his world turned upside down when his TV celebrity girlfriend, Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell), dumps him for a tragically hip rock star. It’s the hysterically funny look at how far one man will go to forget a girl – and all the fun he finds along the way!

Description of Forgetting Sarah Marshall (Unrated Widescreen Edition):
Breaking up is hard to do--but that doesn't mean you can't have some belly laughs about it. Forgetting Sarah Marshall provides that rare treat: a romantic comedy about breakups, that is both romantic and funny. The laughs, especially from writer-star Jason Segel, are both heartfelt and raunchy, and the film is just unexpected enough that it keeps the viewer's attention till the end. The touches of producer Judd Apatow, who's famously retooled rom-coms to appeal to guys as much as women, are woven throughout the film, but Segel's script, reportedly based on many of his own experiences, is fresh and original. And adult. Forgetting Sarah Marshall features male genitalia laffs presented in unexpected and human ways (the nude breakup scene is played for giggles but also deep poignancy), and the language and sex scenes are strictly for grownups--and rightly so. Segel's script, and his performance as Peter, show that he understands the true nature of adult re! lationships, which provides the refreshing difference between this film and some of Apatow's other crude creations. The cast is sublime; Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars) plays title character Sarah, a self-absorbed actress, and Russell Brand is her new British honey who accompanies her to--what are the chances?--the exact same Hawaiian resort as Peter, who's nursing his broken heart. Mila Kunis plays Rachel, the resort employee who gives Peter a reason to hope, and Paul Rudd is the surfing instructor who gives him his own brand of heartfelt advice ("When life gives you lemons, just say 'F--- the lemons' and bail," he says cheerily). The pacing is screwball, and the absurdities fly (a "Dracula" musical puppet show, and a surprisingly lovely Hawaiian version of "Nothing Compares 2 U"). Nothing the viewer will forget any time soon.--A.T. Hurley

Forgetting Sarah Marshall (Unrated Widescreen Edition) Reviews:
    funny movie 5 Star Review
2009-10-31 - Have watched a lot of comedies recently that didn't keep my attention but the time flew with this movie. Great characters, funny lines (I'm still quoting some), and an excellent cast. Highly recommend.

    Huh ??? 1 Star Review
2009-10-28 - I simply cannot believe how the critics frothed over this unfunny garbage. I felt so ripped off that I decided I would boycott that movie review TV show 'At The Movies' --- they couldn't praise this movie enough. Both my girlfriend and I almost walked out of the theater, but we stuck it out. When the credits rolled we both looked at each other like, "Huh???"

    cool movie 5 Star Review
2009-10-17 - The movie is very funny and just awesome. Also Mila Kunis is here :P I love her.

Breaking with Conventions 4 Star Review
2009-10-13 - I thought this movie was actually interesting since it twisted a lot of conventions we usually have in a romantic comedy.

First of all, the guy is the one who has to deal with being rejected as he finds himself totally lost after the break up. I guess it made a lot of dudes out there uncomfortable to see how he deals with it-- maybe because it rang a bit more true than most would like to admit? One can only wonder.

(Spoilers ahead). The guy also doesn't 'get' the girl in the end-- he gets a girl, but not the one he had been in love with. It was his choice, mostly, though, and that felt natural. In a 'regular' romcom, he would most likely get back with his old love, otherwise, the audience would feel 'frustrated'. As if!

And yet, we get to actually like the character of the ex-girlfriend, Sarah Marshall. Maybe not so much as 'like', but we... 'get' her. We understand she's not a [...]. It would be so easy to make her evil so that we wouldn't like her. But life is always more complicated than that, isn't it?

Sarah's new boyfriend, for example, is a 'bit' crazy, but there are positive things you can point out on him. Things don't go the easy way in the movie.

Also, and maybe the most shocking for the guys, it's not the girls we see naked all the time (though there are [...] shown in the movie) - but it is our main guy, who shows his [...] a couple of times during the beginning and the end.

First of all, I say 'bring it' just because it's a sort of subversion of the conventions, and with so much commonplace everywhere, i'm definitely up for that. BUT, there's intention beyond that.

The first time it happens, that was precisely how he felt when his girlfriend was dumping him - unprotected, naked. When it happens again, in the end, he is naked as he prepares for a new relationship. It's come full circle. Of course, some people are way too 'distracted' to even think about any possible symbolic meaning for that.

Overall, very nice movie; and given its purpose, I guess it's very sucessful. It's quite funny.

    Swingers lite...... 2 Star Review
2009-10-09 - I gave this film two stars because every twenty minutes or so something mildly amusing happens. It does, however, remind you of a much funnier and better written picture known as "Swingers" starring a young Vince Vaughn and John Favreahgytrheoue (spelling?). A mopey guy gets dumped by a selfish woman who then wants him back when she finds out he's happy again. Ho hum, been there seen that. Nudity is thrown in for desperate attempts at laughs from the fourteen-year-old crowd..."hahahaha did you see the guy from how I met ur mother's butt??? That's freakin hilarious!!!" Then for good measure they toss in a half hour vampire puppet opera. Yes, it is true. I would best describe this film as weak barely passable entertainment perhaps during a blizzard. Enjoy.
