  • Editorial Review:
Here's the killer comedy hit that's loaded with outrageous fun! For Martin Blank (John Cusack -- HIGH FIDELITY, SERENDIPITY), a hit man stuck in a career rut, attending his 10-year high school reunion is about the last thing he's in the mood for! But when the prospects of rekindling an old flame (Minnie Driver -- GOOD WILL HUNTING) and pulling off one final job convince him to go, things are looking up ... that is, until Martin's arch rival (Dan Aykroyd) shows up aiming to blow the competition away! For hilarious comedy entertainment that's packed with action, GROSSE POINTE BLANK is a surefire knockout!

    Description of Grosse Pointe Blank:
Hit man Martin Q. Blank (John Cusack) is in an awkward situation. Several of them, actually. He's attending his high school reunion on an assignment; he's got a rival hit man (Dan Aykroyd) on his tail; and he's going to have to explain to his old girlfriend (Minnie Driver) why he stood her up on prom night. This amiable black comedy, cowritten by Cusack and directed by Jonathan Demme protégé George Armitage (Miami Blues), has the feel of Demme's Something Wild and Married to the Mob--which is to say its humor is dark and brightly colored at the same time. Cusack and Driver are utterly charming--as is the leading man's sister, Joan, who plays his secretary. (Ms. Cusack received an Oscar nomination for her next role, in In & Out.) Alan Arkin is also very funny as Martin's psychiatrist. --Jim Emerson

    Grosse Pointe Blank Reviews:
Not Clearly marked WIDE SCREEN 3 Star Review
2009-10-26 - As you can see by the picture of the product it doesn't clearly say Widescreen. somewhere in the print in the descriptions on the page wide screen was slipped in and when I received my DVD VERY CLEARLY on the front of the DVD Case is printed WIDE SCREEN in Huge letters. Unfortunately I didn't want wide screen as I can't stand watching DVD's that are enveloped but that is what I got. So Be VERY Very CAREFUL to make sure you get what you want. Other than that all I can say is that it came to me in pristine contition.

    Hilarious! 5 Star Review
2009-07-04 - This movie is absolutely hilarious! It's actually one of my all-time favorite movies. If you ever get the chance, you should definitely watch it! It is extremely well-written and an all-in-all funny and uplifting movie.

As others commented earlier, the DVD quality itself isn't all that great, even if you don't like extras, the picture quality has been completely downgraded. In other words, if you get the chance, watch the movie, it's worth more than 5 stars...if you can buy another dvd version...I'd do it. This came out looking more like a basement production due to the picture quality, which somewhat distracted from how amazing this movie really it.

Excllent Dark Comedy ( and Minnie Driver!) 4 Star Review
2009-05-14 - Recently I bought the (sort of) sequel to this great movie, War, Inc.which was not excellent. But it did remind me of how much I loved this movie and hadn't seen it in years so I ordered a copy which arrived this week, and today I sat down and watched it again, and it is still a Dark Comic gem.

Full of manic ramblings, fun action and redemptive romance, this remains a favorite of mine, 12 years later.

One of the 90's best! 5 Star Review
2009-02-23 - One of my favorite movies of the 90's! John Cusack plays a hitman who returns to his hometown to attend his high school reunion. A great fight takes place between Cusack and former kickboxing champion Benny "The Jet" Urquidez, who is sent to kill him. Also includes Minnie Driver and Dan Aykroyd in great supporting roles.

Grosse Pointe Blank 5 Star Review
2009-02-01 - One of my all time favorite movies. A dark comedy with a love story. Yes and thank you! Everything about this movie is spot on: cast, acting, story, writing, execution....
