Editorial Review:
Ashley Judd stars as Claire Kubik, a high-powered attorney whose perfect life comes down when her husband is charged with high crimes of murder. Enlisting the aid of a shrewd military lawyer (Morgan Freeman), Claire will risk her career and even her life to find the truth in this "head-snapping thriller" (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel).
Description of High Crimes (Widescreen Edition):
A welcomed reunion of Kiss the Girls costars Ashley Judd and Morgan Freeman makes High Crimes a worthwhile thriller with vivid, likable characters. Efficiently directed by Carl Franklin, this military mystery doesn't have the unpredictable edginess of Franklin's Devil in a Blue Dress, but its twisting plot is sure to hold anyone's attention. Judd plays a successful, happily married lawyer whose husband (Jim Caviezel) is accused of killing innocent citizens during his military service in El Salvador some 13 years earlier. A cover-up implicates a powerful Brigadier General (Bruce Davison), but when Judd hires a maverick attorney (Freeman), Judd is caught in a potentially lethal trap of threats and deception. Attentive viewers will stay ahead of the action, and alleged villains are posed as obvious decoys. Still, Judd and Freeman have an appealing rapport (shared with Amanda Peet, playing Judd's vivacious sister), and Freeman's character flaws add worldly spice to yet another rich performance. --Jeff Shannon

100 GREATEST MOVIES YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN BY HARD TO FIND MUSIC AND MOVIES
2009-11-10 - this is #47 in the above titles list which you really should visit at [...]for a free copy. It is a great movie and Ashley Judd and Morgan Freeman give flawless performances.
Predictable
2009-10-08 - I am a big fan of both Morgan Freeman and Ashley Judd and appreciated their fine acting. However, the plot was not very imaginative and the ending entirely predictable. I now own a DVD that I will probably never look at again. But those are the chances one takes when buying a DVD that I had never seen on screen or even on TV before. Sorry, I had hoped it would have been a better "who done it"
Waste of Time
2009-03-28 - HO HUM! We found the plot and characters to be completely unbelievable. Glad we didn't pay the ticket prices to see it when it first came out as I don't think I could have sat through it. At least being able to check it out from the library, we didn't waste money!
Did He Do It, Or Didn't He?
2009-02-21 - This was an involving story of a military man accused of murdering civilians 15 years earlier and then going A.W.O.L. The whole story revolves around one question: did he do it or is he innocent?
That question keeps the viewer guessing for much of the film and provides some very good suspense. It's another film, however, in which there is a strong anti-U.S. military flavor, so typical in films since the 1960s.
Also, once you know the ending, I doubt if this would be a movie you would watch more than once. However, it's definitely worth a look and will entertain you for about two hours. Ashley Judd, Jim Caviezel and Morgan Freeman are three attractive lead actors, all interesting to watch, as usual.
Great pairing of Morgan Freeman and Ashley Judd
2008-11-18 - Just when you think you know what the truth is and who the bad guys really are---there is a twist in the plot. Great thriller that unfolds slowly but gets you hooked. Great acting by Morgan Freeman and Ashley Judd and the supporting actors are very good in their roles. For any Marines in the audience, I am sure you will have to "suspend disbelief" in viewing this movie---it is completely fiction and is not an insult to the Marine corps or our fine men and women in the Marines. It is a very satisfying thriller and the ending will susprise you. I recommend this for people who enjoy fine acting and a good thriller.
