Mike Myers's first feature role without his Wayne's World wig is a performance at odds with the best interests of the movie. Myers plays a single guy who always manages to find something seriously wrong with each of his girlfriends. His new love (Nancy Travis), a butcher, may be the perfect woman, except for one thing: she might be a "black-widow" killer who prefers dispatching husbands with a sharp instrument. Robbie Fox's original script has a fine shape and strong, black-comedy material within it. But Myers creates unnecessary dissonance by playing a variety of characters (including an irascible Scotsman like the one he often played on Saturday Night Live) and accenting his skills as an improvisational comic (such as impersonating the soothing cadences of a massage therapist). It's not that Myers isn't funny doing all that, but it has nothing to do with the movie. Directed by Thomas Schlamme (Miss Firecracker). --Tom Keogh

Better than some say
2009-12-28 - This review is in response to the negative Nans whose postings almost turned me off from watching this little gem. Here's a movie that pretends to be nothing but fun. It has a passel of top-rate actors: Alan Arkin, Phil Hartman, Amanda Plummer, Charles Grodin..... playing small parts. but to the hilt. I say to the naysayers, put your feet up and give it another try.

2009-09-21 - This is one of the funniest movies I have seen in a long time. Pay attention to a small things going on around the main charecters.

Great comedy for the non-comey types. Not obnoxious - but rather, subtle, clever humor.
2009-06-18 - Comedy is typically not my first choice. This movie was recommended by a friend, and since I received it, I've watched it over and over again. I don't care much for obnoxious humor (Jim Carey type). Mike Myers is hilarious in his talent at inserting subtle, clever humor. This movie is a keeper. I guarantee you'll watch it over and over again!
