Editorial Review:
Though now known mainly for his middle-of-the-road balladry, Neil Diamond started his career in the '60s as a Tin Pan Alley pro who turned out a string of ballsy, folk-rock-styled classic Top 40 singles that may come as a surprise to anyone who's grown up with the image of Diamond as a sensitive crooner and Vegas showman. This 2 CD set contains all of his hits, but it isn't quite the definitive package that its title suggests. His early Bang singles ("Cherry, Cherry," "Kentucky Woman," "Solitary Man") and his later Columbia material ("You Don't Bring Me Flowers," "America," "Heartlight") appear in their original versions. But his mid-period MCA/UNI hits ("Sweet Caroline," "Song Sung Blue," "I Am ... I Said") are represented by live re-recordings from 1989 and 1992. --Scott Schinder
Neil Diamond - The Greatest Hits (1966-1992) Reviews:
All good except the song I bought the CD's to hear
2009-06-27 - I love Neil and especially loved his song Red, Red Wine, the way he did it originally. On this CD he chose to do it Regae style. I was so disappointed. Just not the same. Also, he didn't sing all the verses of the song.

"okay"
2009-05-05 - the neil diamond greatest hits cd is "okay". it's mostly a live concert of neil in his later years as opposed to single cuts of his greatest hits altho there are a few of them on there as well.
Live Recordings? I had no idea
2009-04-05 - As everyone else stated, they were shocked to find out some of the songs on this CD are LIVE.
I too was shocked and didn't read the reviews before purchasing this CD.
I've seen Neil Diamond in concert a few times, but I wanted his hits all together on one CD with regular studio versions.
This is not the case with the CD.
Some of my favorite Studio songs are:
Shilo
Soolaimon
Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show
Shilo sounded "different." This sounded like an alternate version recorded or it was RE-recorded.
The other two lose something when recorded live unless you are there at the concert.
Skip this CD and go for the original greatest hits CDs, even if you have to buy a few separate ones.
This Diamond is a real jewel!
2009-01-06 - Listening to Andrea Bocelli gracefully singing "September Morn" sent my heart on a nostalgic trip to my childhood years when I listened to Neil Diamond's wonderful melodic songs.
Getting this priceless album from Amazon made my Christmas. I enjoyed a peaceful afternoon listening to "Love on the Rocks", "I am ... I said"," Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show" and other timeless songs written by Diamond over the period of twenty six years.
Disappointment
2008-09-10 - A major disappointment. Too many lame "live" versions of many classics. If you purchased this in a store, you will not know this until you get it home and open it as this is not noted anywhere on the outside of the package. Sorry I bought it, but I bought it long before Amazon.
