Yet the mood here is darker in its maturity than on Harvest and Harvest Moon--the previous releases in what now sounds like a trilogy--and the arrangements have greater range and aural depth, with Wayne Jackson of the soulful Memphis Horns, the Fisk University Jubilee Singers gospel choir, and a string section employed to striking effect. This is a song cycle of dreams, memories, family ties, and the passage of time--what is lost and what endures. The elliptical, epic "No Wonder," with its evocation of 9/11, ranks with the most ambitious songs of Young's career, while "Falling Off the Face of the Earth," "It's a Dream," and the bluesy title cut combine childlike innocence with unsettling experience. What an awful, awful album
2008-11-12 - If Neil had cranked out album's like this throughout his career his name would be linked with lesser singer-songwriters like James Taylor and Jackson Browne instead of Bob Dylan. I know what you are thinking, "But he has done albums like this before! What about Harvest, Harvest Moon and Silver and Gold?!?!". Sorry, but Prairie Wind is a pale imitation of those albums.

The songwriting is weak and the arrangements are often saccharine and overbearing. I can honestly say that I enjoy "Landing on Water", "Arc" and "Are You Passionate?" much more than this album. At least LOW had "Hippie Dream", Arc took guts and AYP? had a great guitar tone. Prairie Wind just mocks all the good work Neil did wiith an acoustic guitar.

If you are a collector it is a must but if you like good Neil Young music pass on this one and get the other acoustic albums.

2008-05-02 - I have watched the performance on cable several times and had to buy the DVD. I have read reviews where some didn't like this album...didn't like what Neil Young had done. I see this as a product of his maturation and professional evolution. We all mellow out eventually and I love hearing this music. Neil Young has traveled a long journey and this album was a welcome addition to my collection. I never grow tired of it.

2007-10-06 - A must buy. Neil Young is an enduring classic and if you've enjoyed his folk rock over the years, you will certainly mellow out when you listen to his latest CD. "Just a Dream" is especially good listening.

2006-11-03 - The CD does not play. I have tried it in several different CD players and it simply doesn't play. The Johnny Cash CD I purchased with it plays just fine, so I don't know why it doesn't work. I would appreciate a replacement.
