There's a feeling you get when you put on an Anne Murray record, and--apologies in advance to all you anti-sentimentalists--it's best summarized by the vocal legend herself in the classic tune "I Just Fall in Love Again." You can't help yourself; you fall in love. Those who've been listening along swollen-heartedly since the 1970s know the feeling well, and those who are about to discover Murray via this duets album and its handful of younger-skewing songs--the Nelly Furtado team-up on "Daydream Believer" especially--are going to have a hard time not submitting. It's the tenderness that hooks you: Murray's deep, confident voice manages to be maternal without being claustrophobic, an effect magnified here by expert vocal partners like Carole King, Emmylou Harris, and Olivia Newton John. The few left-field choices--Indigo Girls, k.d. lang, a ghostly appearance by Dusty Springfield--aren't hard-left enough to muck up the mood. And the song selection doesn't strike a false note either: "Cotton Jenny" sounds as right on an Anne Murray CD as "You Needed Me." Which means that if you have a soft spot for Murray at all, even one that's not quite as cushy as it used to be, you should prepare to be sucked in. 2009-09-29 - I bought this for my mom as a Christmas gift this year. I know she'll like and enjoy listening to it.

2009-09-22 - Too many of the songs were oldies that I already had on a CD, also the "love" songs were duets with women. I would liked to have the love songs be between Anne and a male vocalist.
No new songs, but great oldies refreshed
2009-09-06 - Anne had previously recorded all these songs, many of which became big hits for her while others became popular despite not being hits. Only one (Another pot o' tea) could be described as a real obscurity, but as Emmylou Harris also recorded that song for one of her own albums, it is entirely appropriate that Anne and Emmylou should record a duet together. Nelly Furtado is the most unlikely singer to be featured here, but she sounds fine on Daydream believer.
Anne's choice of recording partners, who are all female, contains several Canadians and Americans, but an international dimension is provided by Olivia Newton-John, Sarah Brightman and Dusty Springfield. I didn't realize until reading the enclosed notes that Dusty Springfield had actually been the first singer to record I just fall in love again. Anne recorded it a few months later, whereupon it became very successful for her in the American pop and country charts. Here, Anne uses Dusty's original version as a basis for a duet version. The other tracks here are all completely new recordings with the exception of When I fall in love, which is a live duet recording with Celine Dion that dates from 1996.
Elsewhere, the Indigo Girls join Anne for a slightly updated version of A little good news, with Gabon replacing Ireland as a country in which Anne wishes that the children could play happily. Actually, the lyrics haven't changed as much as they could have been. It is interesting that the line about the bad economy was left in unchanged. At the time this album was recorded, the economies of the developed world appeared to be doing well, but things have changed a lot since then.
Elsewhere, the album includes excellent duet versions of Snowbird, You needed me, Could I have this dance, Song for the Mira, Danny's song and other Anne Murray classics.
While this album isn't an essential addition to anybody's collection, it makes for a most enjoyable listening experience. I love all the tracks here even though I have Anne's original versions of all of the songs on other CD's, some of them several times.

2009-08-16 - I have been a fan of Anne Murray since "Snowbird." This CD is one of her best - the choice of partners for her duets is great, and her duet with k.d. lang sends shivers down my spine. Just wish she could have included a duet done with Dusty Springfield while Dusty was still alive. Hearing her dubbing with someone who's been dead for ten years is a little eerie!
A Real Collector's Choice!
2009-04-03 - Anne Murray has been my favorite Artist since she began making Albums and doing Concerts! Her voice and looks have only aged richly over the years. This is a beautiful and collectable group of music done with some of her Frineds and Legends as noted on the title.
I only wish she would still give Concerts tp her Fans in the Pacific Northwest. I'd go in a heartbeat!! Wonderful Album I'd like to see a full album with her daughter Dawn Langstrom
