Editorial Review:
This biography tells the story of the woman behind the actress and describes how the Guelph native went from being one of the National Ballet School of Canada’s best young ballerinas to one of Hollywood’s most popular stars. It recounts in detail—through interviews with her associates and Neve’s own words—the circumstances that drove her to abruptly quit dance and turn her energies to acting. It goes on to explore the fierce ambition that drove her forward along each step of her near-meteoric rise, from her breakthrough part in the Canadian series Catwalk, to the move to Hollywood where she became part of the cast of the hit TV series Party of Five, and beyond to her roles in films such as The Craft, Scream, and Wild Things. Equal attention is paid to Campbell’s private life, including her self-professed insecurities, her difficulty adjusting to fame, and her short-lived marriage to Canadian actor Jeff Colt, a relationship that was certainly a victim of Neve’s success. But as Kathleen Tracy discovers, behind all these apparent weaknesses lies a steely will.
Neve Campbell Reviews:
For Neve Fans
2008-01-23 - Basically, this soft-cover book is a compilation of interviews given by Neve herself, by her brother Christian, and by colleagues and casts of her various films and tv shows. Many of the interviews are available online (if you google Neve Campbell) and if you're into Neve, you may have already read some of them. However, the author has put all the pieces together nicely and it was good to read these interviews in a biographical format.
Neve has an interesting though as yet short history (she's only 34!) and there are some insights into her character and what makes her tick. There is, as another reviewer noted, a lot of information about co-stars and others, that I could have lived without. But had this information not "padded" the strictly Neve biography, the book would have been a slim volume indeed, as she is still young enough to not not have lived through a lifetime of experiences.
The book only goes to the year 2000, the end of Party of Five, and the start of "Panic" and "Drowning Mona." Since then, Neve has done quite a lot of work. Perhaps an update is in order.
The photos are good, though not great. (I would have picked different ones.) What's nice about the pictures is they are full page, not little thumbnails, and the reproduction is very good.
This is not Doris Kearns Goodwin writing about Abraham Lincoln, but overall, it's a light, interesting read if you're a Neve fan, and you'll like the book and feel it's money well spent.
The wonderful Neve
2006-07-06 - This was a good book. I would say about 80 percent of the book talks about her rise in television; from simple commercials to Party of Five to the various movies she was in, up to Scream 3. The rest explains a little about her, her family, and things she has done when she was growing up. There were a few things I read about her that I would have never guessed. Overall, this book is very informative and if you read it front to back, you will learn a lot about her and understand who she really is.
Great pics of beautiful Neve,OK biography
2000-09-20 - I bought this book because I've been a fan of Neve since seeing her in Wild Things. I've only skimmed through the book,I haven't read it cover to cover. The pics are fantastic.Definitely the best part of the book.Overall,it's OK.No Booker Prize winner but I still like it better than "Great Expectations"

2000-08-21 - I just love Neve! She is a beautiful woman and a wonderful actress! This book is great, by far the best biography of her out there. And trust me, I've read them all!
