Description of Love Jones:
Boy meets girl, and boy loses girl--no more and no less than that--in this romantic story of young, upwardly mobile African Americans navigating through Chicago club culture to the perilous shores of a relationship. The film was surprisingly popular at a couple of key film festivals in 1997, but there isn't anything particularly noteworthy about it aside from its rare emphasis on a love affair between black urbanites. Larenz Tate and Nia Long are fine in the leads (Tate makes a convincingly self-centered boy-man), and director Theodore Witcher aims for his small target and hits it squarely. --Tom Keogh
Love Jones Reviews:
You All THE BEST!
2009-10-17 - I received my d.v.d. on time. It was in GREAT CONDITION!!! THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!!
it's still fresh and relevant...
2009-08-14 - i saw this last weekend for the first time in 11 years and it did not seem dated at all...it was still lively and fresh. it is a revelation to see black movies made by black people that portray black people in a positive light, that doesn't succumb to stereotypes...or show black people the way others think they see them...i'm pretty iffy about romantic comedy...most romantic comedies tend to serve up cliches and they rarely have real endings...i'm not above happy endings, just not at the expense of truth....the realationship between darius and nina, played by larenz tate and nia long is real...true to form, they meet, fall in love, stumble, get back together, screw up more and yet, they still try to make it work...when i read the review for this movie, it was supposed to be an advertisement for the black poetry/spoken word scene...but this film goes deeper than that...it's just about black people trying their best to maintain their relationships, even if they're not always perfect...larenz tate was always underrated as a black actor...and yes, ladies, he is good eye candy...nia long is probably one of the few women besides my mom and sis i would take a bullet for...she's like a smooth piece of belgian chocolate....whether you've seen it once or 100 times, it's great....
THIS IS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE MOVIE
2009-05-25 - I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS MOVIE, I WATCH THIS MOVIE SO MUCH I PRETTY MUCH KNOW THE SCRIPT
Customer
2009-04-27 - This product was in okay condition. I have some problems with it stopping on me.
my favorite!
2009-03-29 - The subtlety is what makes this film brilliant! And while others thought the film was slow and unimpressive I thought that the film depicted much of real life young love relationship with plenty of ups and downs. The backdrop of old chicago was a nice touch. It was very appealing to all of my artistic senses(music, poetry, photography etc) The soundtrack is perfectly fitting. Nia Long and Lorenz Tate had great chemistry. It is hands down my favorite movie; a must see!
