Editorial Review: Featuring "You Know What You Are?" by Nine Inch Nails, with a score composed by Clint Mansell (Sahara). Millions of devoted fans worldwide have been spellbound by the dark invention of its adventures... have awaited its every incarnation with urgent anticipation... and have devoted countless hours, days and weeks to conquering its hidden mysteries: Doom. When the home-computer game was first launched in 1993, no one could have foreseen the legion of fans it would create and the mania surrounding its every new permutation. Doom and its successive installments have transfixed gamers worldwide for over a decade and have sold millions of copies (while chalking up an unprecedented tens of millions of downloads as shareware). It is, simply, the most explosive home-computer game franchise phenomenon in history. Now, the game that made history is jumping from computer screens to the motion-picture screen: get ready for Doom. Set countless years in the future and told in the hyperkinetic, kamikaze style that made its gaming predecessor a global phenomenon, the science-fiction action adventure Doom takes the viewer to the far corners of the galaxy with a fully-realized vision of a dark and disturbing future.Doom (Score) Reviews: Wonderful Score 2008-01-26 - In an age where movie soundtracks are becoming nothing more than a showcase for whichever bands could afford to have their name slapped all over a movie, or have half of one of their songs played during some inspirational montage in the movie, it's refreshing to hear a Motion Picture Score that's exactly that; a score. It's not a collection of songs by the most popular pop/alternative bands at the time the movie came out. It's an honest-to-god score with just about every single note of music that occurred during the movie.
Clint Mansell does a wonderful job creating dark, dreary moods and intense periods with his music. The soundtrack by itself can sometimes be quiet and brooding, but often comes back en force. I found it works very well as background music for table-top role-playing games, actually, and also a wonderful disc to study too when lyrics are too distracting.
To be honest I'm still on the fence about the Nine Inch Nails song. It's my personal opinion that Trent's work has declined GREATLY over the years, but that's just my opinion.
Overall, a pretty darned good score.
Good Score 2007-05-13 - Has all the music from the movie, I have about eight favorite songs out of the 21 tracks but there all good if you like Doom a lot.
Not a great Nine Inch Nails remix, but still a worthy CD... 2006-03-23 - For anyone like myself who bought this CD with hopes of a killer Nine Inch Nails remix, don't expect too much in that respect - the track is barely 3:00 long & is quite close to the original. However, any fan of NIN should dig the dark synths and heavy drums throughout the actual score. Though disappointed about the NIN remix, I'm still happy to have bought the CD.
Suprisingly Good 2006-03-09 - When I bought this soundtrack, I got it with the movie just to have them both. I saw that Nine Inch Nails was on it, so I assumed it had songs. I'm not really a fan of songs, especially things like Doom which has more mood setting music.
When I put in the CD I was pleasantly surprised with the music. No words to distract from the mood setting music.
If you're a fan the old school game, this music would make a great soundtrack to play with.
The soundtrack MADE the movie 2006-01-08 - Alright, folks, I really didn't think the movie was all that bad. All you DOOM nerds need to get a life, because you should know by now that Hollywood NEVER gets a video-game adaptation right. (I've been a loyal DOOM fan since '93, so I know what I'm talking about. To prove it, it takes 5-6 missiles to bring down a Baron of Hell.)
Anyways, onto the soundtrack. YES! This soundtrack is quite simply the best movie soundtrack I have listened to in 2005. Clint Mansell really captured the TRUE essence of DOOM in this soundtrack, and I believe that the soundtrack really makes the movie more enjoyable to watch. Buy this soundtrack; you really won't regret it.
