Editorial Review:

The Rough Guide to Nirvana uncovers the magic and tragedy of this iconic 90’s grunge band - from small-town gigs to the last days of Kurt Cobain, delve into the story of the life and afterlife of this extraordinary, all too short-lived group. This essential guide for Nirvana fans is written by Gillian G. Gaar, a Seattle music journalist who has personally interviewed many of those involved in the story. No other book explores and documents Nirvana’s history, critiques every Nirvana album, single, EP and compilation, including the rare, stray Nirvana tracks and solo projects, and summaries the array of other Nirvana books and Nirvana films, in one volume. From Nirvana’s early days on the burgeoning Seattle music scene, the birth of grunge, their global success from Smells Like Teen Spirit and Nevermind to In Utero and the untimely death of lead singer Kurt Cobain, The Rough Guide to Nirvana delivers a wealth of musical insight as the definitive guide to Nirvana.

The Rough Guide to Nirvana 1 (Rough Guide Sports/Pop Culture) Reviews:
Great book on NIRVANA!! 5 Star Review
2009-08-15 - I love this book! It is a very thorough, detailed guide to NIRVANA,and includes some things I had never read on the band and Kurt Cobain (and I have read it all). A definite must have for any NIRVANA fan's collection! I also like that the author includes sections on Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic's years after NIRVANA, and the Kurt Cobain Memorial Committee. Great job!

A Very Brief Overview of Nirvana 3 Star Review
2009-08-14 - I will start this off by saying that if you are new to the world of Nirvana, this is an excellent starting point. If you are a seasoned vet, this will be a huge letdown. This book is well written and informative, but like the title says, it's a "rough guide" thus only skimming over the career of Nirvana and post Nirvana activities. If you want a detailed biography of the band, this is certainly not the book. If you are looking for a more hearty read, I would highly recommend Everett True's "Nirvana: The Biography" or Michael Azerrad's "Come as You Are" (both are cited in this book).

There were a few facts in here that I hadn't read about before that I found interesting, and the discography and release information at the end of the book is a handy guide to have at your fingertips. There are also excellent sources listed for you to further your Nirvana research.

Though a quick read, it's not my favorite Nirvana book by a longshot. Sorry Gillian!

Great book 5 Star Review
2009-06-08 - This book, with all honesty, is one of the best Nirvana books I have ever read. The author of this book does an excellent job capturing all the important moments (and some of the lesser known moments) throughout Nirvana's history. The book even talks about what happened to Krist and Dave after Kurt's death. Which I thought was pretty cool. Unlike Charles Cross' book Heavier Than Heaven, this book is very accurate and it does not have any errors. I recommend this book to all Nirvana fans; from the die-hard fans to the fresh new fans, The Rough Guide to Nirvana is a must have. Thank you Gillian G. Gaar for writing this book.
