Description of Nevermind (180 Gram Vinyl):
If Nevermind's sound is familiar now, it's only because thousands of rock records that followed it were trying very hard to cop its style. It tears out of the speakers like a cannonball, from the punk-turbo-charged riff of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" onward, magnifying and distilling the wounded rage of 15 years of the rock underground into a single impassioned roar. Few albums have occupied the cultural consciousness like this one; of its 12 songs, roughly 10 are now standards. The record's historical weight can make it hard to hear now with fresh ears, but the monumental urgency of Kurt Cobain's screams is still shocking. --Douglas Wolk
Nevermind (180 Gram Vinyl) Reviews:
Kurt was great.....
2009-11-02 - but people should really give a lot more credit to Dave and Krist for laying down the backbone for the Nirvana sound. Krist is so underrated people I know like Nirvana and could not even tell you the guys name, dude was in the background laying down some seriously great catchy bass lines and Dave is/was the best drummer since Bonham; I love Kurt don't get me wrong but he was only as good as his band.
Must have 90's rock classic!
2009-10-23 - Nothing more to say about this CD other than perfection. Don't forget about the hidden track after the last song.
Must have for all rock fans.
not bad but overrated for sure
2009-09-16 - Nevermind is probably the best Nirvana's effort and it's the only I can suggest to neophytes. The problem is that only the 1st 4-5 songs are good (not masterpieces!). The sound is naif, spontaneous, but childish too...Anyway, much better than the absolutely unheardable "In utero" or the incredibly boring "Unplugged...".
If you want to hear the best "grunge-sound", let's play "Monster" by R.E.M. or TEN by Pearl Jam...
90's Grunge Pioneers Nirvana
2009-09-10 - Nevermind was almost an instant success, or least it appeared that way, with the popularity of the band on the rise, largely from the Smells Like Teen Spirit song and video. In any case, they were in the right place at the right time and the rest is rock and roll history. Most of the Nevermind record was interesting, despite a slow song or two.
Overrated
2009-07-17 - When I was younger I used to listen to this album quite a bit. It's good despite the fact that the songs have been played to death. The only reason this album did so well is because the media blew it out of proportion. Soundarden and Alice in Chains had more talent. Chris Cornell is arguably the greatest vocalist of all the grunge bands and just about every song on Facelift could have been a single. Whereas Nevermind had a few great songs a few decent songs and some filler. I would have givin Nirvana 4 stars if they weren't so overrated. Some people just listen to music to fit in.
