Critical Review Reviews: No new insight - don't waste your time (or money) 2009-04-03 - I actually bought this from a record store on a day when I was in a Nirvana mood and wanted to learn a little more about the band and maybe see some live footage. Upon watching this, I don't know anything that I didn't already know before. It seems the makers just interviewed random people from Kurt Cobain's hometown of Aberdeen, WA, and other third-rate rock journalists, and they have to say is that "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was of great cultural import. Big deal. There were a few short clips of interviews with the band, but the whole documentary is very "outside-looking-in" and seems pretty shallow.
Now I know better than to pick a random music DVD from a store without first doing my research.
Inside Nirvana: Not So Bad 2005-03-24 - Ok - so I heard about this dvd coming and i was searching all over the net to find out what the content was and couldn't fond anything specific - the mystery was killing me - so i ended up buying a promo copy to see what it was all about. The live footage is all from Saturday Night Live, Mtv's Live and Loud and Mtv Unplugged. The interviews aren't so bad - some info is actually pretty interesting - alot of stories and such about Kurt and the band. There are also some clips of Kurt in an interview circa 1/16/93 from brazilian tv. The cool thing about it is that the "review" spans their whole career up to in Utero - its nice to hear people actually talk about In Utero since it is almost always ignored - even tho some of the "reviewers" have no idea what their talking about, like the unknown lady with purple hair. Overall, the DVD is not bad and actually watchable and somewhat interesting..but don't buy this for the live footage cuz it's all available elsewhere in better quality.
