Not Too Late

Description of Not Too Late:
Although the music of Norah Jones continues to blend pop, soul, folk, and country with a seasoning of jazz, her third album for Blue Note is the first where she's written (or collaborated on) all the material. Beneath the smooth surface lie darker strains on the album-opening "Wish I Could" (about a boyfriend lost to war), intimations of mortality in "The Sun Doesn't Like You," and the post-election horrors of "My Dear Country." The last seems to channel the inspiration of Brecht/Weill, while the equally bleak "Sinkin' Soon" is set to a jaunty Dixieland rag. Throughout, Jones's vocal intimacy and melodic warmth remain as disarmingly understated as ever. The soulful "Thinking of You," the countryish "Wake Me Up," and the syncopated "Be My Somebody" reflect the captivating style of her previous work. Although too much in the same midtempo mode becomes a dreamy lull, cut by cut, Jones's voice is irresistible. --Don McLeese

Not Too Late Reviews:
More beautiful music at an amazing price 4 Star Review
2009-10-09 - Download an entire album for $3 is amazing. Who is going to hesitate at the price? I'm sure that the artist can earn more if the business is set up right, and the fat cats are cut out of the process.

I hope this might be a sign of things to come. Like the Apple App Store, providing great products at a great price means high volume and more earnings for the producers.

A very nice album by the way.

Just doesn't work like her other albums 2 Star Review
2009-10-09 - When I first got this, I had also gotten several other albums and didn't really pay much attention to it. I loved Norah's first two releases, but "Not Too Late" didn't grab me right away (the politicized stuff was noteworthy only in that it was blatant and had been talked about in reviews), so I kind of forgot about it for a while. When I recently loaded it back up on my MP3 player for a listen with fresh ears several months later, I was actually disappointed. I don't know if it's the new songwriting, or if it's the baggage of "political writing" that weighs down what used to be very evocative work, or if it's just Norah fatigue, but I just didn't get into it. There are a couple of good tracks that I'd rather append to 'Come Away With Me' as my personal version of bonus tracks, but overall, I don't care for this work.

Analog Masterpiece 5 Star Review
2009-10-08 - I was sceptical when i first heard of this 200gr clarity vinyl.would it be worth the money?
the second you hold this in your hand you realise that this is no hoax, the vinyl is milky blue tranparent insted of black and very heavy.
but whats even better its anti-stattic! how long do you spend cleaning your records before you can play them? Not with this!
Now to the Sound: how they managed to give a already good recording so mutch more Depth and clarity i honestly dont know. It is simply breathtaking.

Mellow, Sultry, And Surprisingly Intense 4 Star Review
2009-08-27 -
Norah Jones is one of the few musicians or bands putting out music today who appeal to those of us who have a little more out of the mainstream tastes, shall we say, and simultaneously to the masses. The ability to do that takes special talent.

This is the type of record you can listen to as background music or enjoy peeling away its layers on the headphones. I can't think of too many records which work that way.

Her voice will sink into your consciousness, and stick with you forever.

I don't like all of her records, but this one's for the most part consistent from beginning to end.

Great place to start if you don't have any other Norah Jones albums.

Norah's not everyone's cup of tea 4 Star Review
2009-08-12 - but she's great. My favorite song on this album is sinkin soon. Get this album if you enjoy jazz and previous Norah albums.
