Editorial Review:
Norah Jones sophomore effort shows her musicianship on tunes such as Broken, Wish I Could, Sinkin' Soon and the title track Not to Late among others. On this record she is more confident and exhibits her control of nuance that she is famous for live. Firmly back to the Come Away with Me style songs and My Dear Country, Norah and the band are in the groove on this release and it shows. On Wake Me Up, Norah delivers a stirring Mary Chapin Carpenter-ish performance accompanied by producer/band member Lee Alexander on lap steel guitar. Norah delivers her most solid and fluid record to date. Mastered by Bernie Grundman directly from the original 1/2-inch analog master tapes and pressed on 200g Super Vinyl. Pressing by Classic Records for Blue Note and Norah. Limited Edition Red Vinyl.
Description of Not Too Late (200 Gram):
Although the music of Norah Jones continues to blend pop, soul, folk, and country with a seasoning of jazz, her third album for Blue Note is the first where she's written (or collaborated on) all the material. Beneath the smooth surface lie darker strains on the album-opening "Wish I Could" (about a boyfriend lost to war), intimations of mortality in "The Sun Doesn't Like You," and the post-election horrors of "My Dear Country." The last seems to channel the inspiration of Brecht/Weill, while the equally bleak "Sinkin' Soon" is set to a jaunty Dixieland rag. Throughout, Jones's vocal intimacy and melodic warmth remain as disarmingly understated as ever. The soulful "Thinking of You," the countryish "Wake Me Up," and the syncopated "Be My Somebody" reflect the captivating style of her previous work. Although too much in the same midtempo mode becomes a dreamy lull, cut by cut, Jones's voice is irresistible. --Don McLeese
Not Too Late (200 Gram) Reviews:
a true talent spreads her wings and takes flight
2009-12-03 - I have heard Norah's earlier releases, yeah, the stuff that won all the grammy awards, and...yeah, she's great. But this is the first release stocked with her own songs, and with the sound quality that her music merits. In this recording I hear a talent who comes from the place where the real stuff comes from. She will grow and she will change and she will mature, and I will always be listening. And thank you Blue Note, this is an audiophile recording, or at least an A-, which puts it in the top 10% of CDs. When I heard this I bought all her earlier stuff, and was crushed to discover that to my ears it is unlistenable on sound quality alone. Thank you Norah for this release, I hope your technical people will continue to treat your music right in the future. Norah plays some classics on the earlier releases, and sure they're great songs, but her own songs in her own voice shine dark and sweet and subtle here. I will always think of this as Norah's first album.
Damn Fine Music
2009-11-17 - This cd has recieved mixed reviews, but I have to say, it is wonderful. Her songwriting is impecable and very emotional. It's hard not to hum along. I obviously loved it. And her new cd, "This Fall," is equally well crafted. I would recommend both to anyone who likes good music. Anyone.
1st rate, damn fine songwriting!

More beautiful music at an amazing price
2009-10-09 - Download an entire album for $3 is amazing. Who is going to hesitate at the price? I'm sure that the artist can earn more if the business is set up right, and the fat cats are cut out of the process.
I hope this might be a sign of things to come. Like the Apple App Store, providing great products at a great price means high volume and more earnings for the producers.
A very nice album by the way.
Just doesn't work like her other albums
2009-10-09 - When I first got this, I had also gotten several other albums and didn't really pay much attention to it. I loved Norah's first two releases, but "Not Too Late" didn't grab me right away (the politicized stuff was noteworthy only in that it was blatant and had been talked about in reviews), so I kind of forgot about it for a while. When I recently loaded it back up on my MP3 player for a listen with fresh ears several months later, I was actually disappointed. I don't know if it's the new songwriting, or if it's the baggage of "political writing" that weighs down what used to be very evocative work, or if it's just Norah fatigue, but I just didn't get into it. There are a couple of good tracks that I'd rather append to 'Come Away With Me' as my personal version of bonus tracks, but overall, I don't care for this work.
Analog Masterpiece
2009-10-08 - I was sceptical when i first heard of this 200gr clarity vinyl.would it be worth the money?
the second you hold this in your hand you realise that this is no hoax, the vinyl is milky blue tranparent insted of black and very heavy.
but whats even better its anti-stattic! how long do you spend cleaning your records before you can play them? Not with this!
Now to the Sound: how they managed to give a already good recording so mutch more Depth and clarity i honestly dont know. It is simply breathtaking.
