The Offspring Reviews:
SOLID!
2008-07-19 - One word, solid. This is the beginning of the band known to all as The Offspring. The music is raw and catchy enough, and the lyrics are enough to upset all the right wing conservatives. I dig the lower quality less polished sound of this album versus some of their more polished albums. When you have as much raw intensity and emotion as there is in this album, over production could ruin the album big time. For people growing tired of the mainstream "rehashed" radio friendly Offspring, give this and Ignition a spin, and I assure you that will change your opinion of the Offspring. In fact, you'll see an evolution, a band that was really great growing up and maturing. This is a fun CD to listen to, and it's also something you can listen to to make you a little angry- just focus really hard on the lyrics. But hey, that's no fun and definitely not the point with the Offspring. It's such a shame that this album is as underrated as it is. If more people bought this, one of two things would happen. Either people would eternally LOVE the Offspring, or people would run to the hills. Either way, just push play, and crank your volume, and prepare to be amazed.
A solid debut album from a legendary band
2008-06-22 - Although it is nothing like Americana, Conspiracy of One, or Splinter, this is well worth picking up if you are a fan of The Offspring. With songs like Jennifer Lost the War, Beheaded, Demons, and Kill the President, this is a much darker album than any other Offspring CD. If you liked Smash and/or Ignition better than the more recent Offspring albums then you'd probably like this one. If you're a bigger fan of the pop/rock style of more recent albums then you may want to preview the tracks first.
Best Tracks:
Jennifer Lost the War
Crossroads
Blackball
I'll Be Waiting
Ridiculously good debut
2008-01-27 - Very few punk bands nowadays play music this awesome. And that's a damn shame, because music like this hasn't been around, let alone mainstream in the 21st century. There's many extremely good reasons to own this album.
Firstly, it's not three chord speedriffing, so it's much more interesting. Secondly, the lyrics are incredibly intelligent for a punk band. Thirdly, there's guitar solos, AND bass solos. Definitely a lost art in the current society. (term "society" lightly used) Fourthly, it's very catchy, which seems like an oxymoron, with titles such as Beheaded, and Kill the President. Finally, the production is CRYSTAL clear, and the copy I own is NOT the reissued and/or remastered version.
Now, I've heard that Kill the President does not exist on the reissued copy. This song is a pretty good reason to be absolutely sure that your copy has this song on it. It ends the album much better than I'll be Waiting would.
Standout tracks are numerous, with maybe 1 weak track in the form Tehran. Some are a little more standout than others. Beheaded is hilariously goofy and witty, and Jennifer Lost the War is about child murder, the polar opposite. As such, this album covers a variety of topics.
Sure, albums like Smash are miles ahead, but my god this album captured my attention like a chocolate bar in front of a fat kid.
Enjoy, and start the mosh pit!
Does not have "Kill the President"
2007-09-25 - I love the Offspring and this album. However you must beware that the song "Kill the President" is NOT on the album. I basically only bought the album for that song.
Great Album! Hard to Find in Stores!
2007-02-15 - Just another great album of The Offspring!!! Yeah!!!
