  • Editorial Review:
Wendell Baker (Luke Wilson) is a dreamer and schemer whose latest scam lands him in jail, alienating him from his longtime girlfriend (Eva Mendes). Eternally optimistic, Wendell makes the most of his time behind bars and vows to turn his life around. Upon release, he gets a job at a retirement hotel, where he befriends some of the elderly residents. Wendell's new friends advise him on how to win back his girlfriend, while he helps them battle the hotel's evil head nurse Neil King (Owen Wilson) and his right-hand man McTeague (Eddie Griffin).

    The Wendell Baker Story Reviews:
    fantastic movie 5 Star Review
2009-10-07 - Anything movie with both Owen and Luke Wilson is a must have. I found this movie on here after never hearing about it before and it is great. just a great commedy with a finish that can't help but to leave everyone with a happy face.

A lovable big kid... 3 Star Review
2009-10-06 - Wendell Baker (Luke Wilson) is an imaginative entrepreneur. Instead of developing a mainstream business he is constantly coming up with illegal ways of making money, and of course he is constantly getting caught. Wendell though is a lovable, playful character, if a little full of himself. He's like an creative child who is play acting and doesn't know, or appreciate, the line between legal and illegal. Basically he means well, and is just trying to get by in this world like everyone else. If he was more mature, and directed his sights to bigger goals he might be another Howard Hughes. But he's too much of a kid at heart for this too happen. His immaturity results in him eventually losing his girlfriend(Eva Mendes), and again landing himself in jail. Funnily enough he seems quite content in jail, and he immediately begins to put his considerable talents to work turning the prison into a sort of harmonious club med.

Eventually he gets out of prison and gets his first legit job working in an elderly retreat where he meets up with the evil nurse (Owen Wilson) and his coworker (Eddie Griffin) who are running the establishment and bilking the elderly of their old age security checks. He also discovers that his girlfriend is living town with the owner (Will Ferrell) of a small grocery store, and so begins his attempt to try and make good on his new lease on life. This is a charming and witty movie that has good triumphing over evil.

Smug and dull. 1 Star Review
2009-07-13 - How does a movie this bad get made? It just makes everyone in it look bad. Poor Eva really comes across as talentless. I had to stop watching after it went nowhere for nearly an hour. Sad.

    Wendell Baker 3 Star Review
2009-05-03 - I bought this not expecting too much from it. The Wilson brothers don't disappoint comedically, however at times it seems it would have made more sense for Luke and Owen to switch roles. Will Ferrell does make a few hilarious appearances, and overall the movie isn't bad, just not one of their best.

A heart warming DVD 5 Star Review
2009-02-02 - This was a great story of Wendell Baker. Never give up on your own dreams because dreams do come true! Judy
