Magic and adventure await in FernGully, a spectacular rainforest where a bat named Batty, whose radar has gone haywire, joins together with Crysta, Pips and the Beetle Boys to save their marvelous world from the evil Hexxus. Ignoring the warnings of her friends, Crysta, the curious tree fairy, explores the world beyond FernGully. She discovers Zak, a real live human who is helping demolish the rainforest. Once Zak sees the beauty and magic of FernGully, he vows to save it. But it may be too late. The Diabolical Hexxus is on the loose and intent on destroying all of FernGully. Description of FernGully - The Last Rainforest (Family Fun Edition):
Environmentally friendly animated film with a strong message that doesn't club anyone over the head--but it certainly can't be missed. Zak (voiced by Christian Slater) is a heavy-machine operator whose job is to push over any vegetation in his path. He's shrunken to wee size, however, when Crysta (Samantha Mathis), a fairy of the forest, not only finds him cute but wants him to see the results of his handiwork. They end up battling Hexxus, an evil force imprisoned in a tree, which now wants to destroy all of Ferngully. Robin Williams offers genuine comic relief as a bat named Batty Koda. Agreeable without making much impact, it's a piffle of a film for one that deals with such strong subject matter. --Keith Simanton

Educational and entertaining 
2008-05-12 - This is a great movie for children. Teaches them about ecology and ways to save the planet.
This movie is not really that good. 
2008-04-25 - I honestly don't know why people like this movie so much. The animation is poor, the songs are just dreadful(acid rain falling down like egg chow mein-seriously!!), and the story is extremely one sided. All destruction is portrayed as being bad. There is only one line in the film that suggests that there needs to be a balance between creation and destruction. The portable lumber mill is just ridiculous; that is not how forests are cleared. If you want to teach children about the horrors of clear cutting, explain it to them in a logical way. If you want to teach them the importance of environmentalism, show them "Princess Mononoke."
Fern Gully
2008-01-26 - The DVD Fern Gully has long been a favorite in my household. Both children, now in college, enjoyed it and still do. This recent purchase was a replacement copy. The message of "Fern Gully" becomes increasingly more important as we continue to defile this planet: conservation, respect, friendship. Not only does it have several interwoven life message but the overall story is well-written and executed. The characters are lovable. The beauty of this movie is undeniable: vivid colors, attention to detail, beautifully done and just simply a lovely story well presented. We all watch it for enjoyment, entertainment. The messages are everlasting. This is a worthwhile purchase.
Brings Back a Lot of Good Memories
2007-11-28 - I remember watching this show practically all the time with my older sister when I was growing up. I always enjoyed it, and I still do to this day. The animation is great (I absolutely LOVE the intricate detail of the rainforest), the actors are great (especially Robin Williams and Tim Curry), and the music is spectacular. Overall, FernGully is an A+ movie.
