  • Editorial Review:
Magic and adventure await in FernGully, a spectacular rainforest where a bat named Batty, whose radar has gone haywire, joins together with Crysta, Pips and the Beetle Boys to save their marvelous world from the evil Hexxus. Ignoring the warnings of her friends, Crysta, the curious tree fairy, explores the world beyond FernGully. She discovers Zak, a real live human who is helping demolish the rainforest. Once Zak sees the beauty and magic of FernGully, he vows to save it. But it may be too late. The Diabolical Hexxus is on the loose and intent on destroying all of FernGully. This animated feature rocks with an original score performed by Sheena Easton, Raffi, Tone-Loc and others.

Description of FernGully - The Last Rainforest (Follow Along DVD):
Environmentally friendly animated film with a strong message that doesn't club anyone over the head--but it certainly can't be missed. Zak (voiced by Christian Slater) is a heavy-machine operator whose job is to push over any vegetation in his path. He's shrunken to wee size, however, when Crysta (Samantha Mathis), a fairy of the forest, not only finds him cute but wants him to see the results of his handiwork. They end up battling Hexxus, an evil force imprisoned in a tree, which now wants to destroy all of Ferngully. Robin Williams offers genuine comic relief as a bat named Batty Koda. Agreeable without making much impact, it's a piffle of a film for one that deals with such strong subject matter. --Keith Simanton

Ferngully: The Last Rain Forest 5 Star Review
2009-07-07 - My daughter loved this movie when she was little, now she is 20 and loves it even more. She says that the humor in it is lost on the kids. It is a great family movie because the kids and the adults will enjoy it.FernGully: The Last Rainforest (Family Fun Edition)

Exactly What I Wanted! 5 Star Review
2009-01-07 - I bought this as a Christmas present for my 12-year-old daughter. I watched this movie as a child and got her name from here, Crysta. She LOVES it! This was actually one of her favorite presents this year. :) The DVD and picture quality are perfect. I am very pleased and will continue buying DVDs from Amazon.

I have but one claw, but beware. 4 Star Review
2008-11-23 - This is a very environmental movie, with pollution as the monster and the objective was to save Fern Gully the rain forest. Overall, it was very enjoyable.

A fun kids' movie with an environmental message 4 Star Review
2008-09-12 - Having watched Fern Gully many years ago with my younger siblings, I purchased this DVD edition to watch with my preschooler. The story centers around Crysta, a tree elf who lives in a rain forest with her friends, consisting of other magical beings, and animals such as the radar-impaired Batty, the Beetle Boys etc. They find that their beloved rain forest is threatened by Man and must take the necessary steps to ensure its preservation.

The environmental message here is well-suited for little ones - it is not over the top and put forth in a fun way. The songs are fun: "Life is a Magic Thing", "Batty Rap", "If I'm Gonna Eat Somebody", "Toxic Love", "Land of a Thousand Dances". This DVD comes with both Widescreen and Fullscreen Versions, there are 8 set-top games & behind the scenes features such as a making-of featurette [both the original and new], director commentary and many more. It also comes with captioning options for the hearing-impaired. I must say that the DVD has been well put-together and all in all highly recommended for young and old viewers alike. My little one certainly enjoyed it!
