Description of Official Live: 101 Proof:
It's a bit surprising that Pantera waited until 1997 to release a live album, considering how brutal and powerful the band had been in concert. At an average Pantera show, it would not be unusual to see security evicting overzealous fans, and club bathrooms filled with bloody wads of paper towels from mosh pit injuries. Official Live 101 Proof captures the group in its natural, violent element, combining abrupt, barbed riffs with pulse-pounding beats and furious vocals. The record spans Pantera's career, from the classic guitar lick of "Cowboys from Hell" to the fuzzbomb fury of "Suicide Note Pt. 2" (from album The Great Southern Trendkill). As an encore, the band offers album buyers two new studio tracks, the bluesy bonecrusher "Where You Come From" and the grinding piledriver "I Can't Hide." As the fortress of alternative rock continues to crumble, Pantera stomp vindictively through the rubble, their metallic legacy intact. --Jon Wiederhorn
Official Live: 101 Proof Reviews:
F-ing Yeah!!!!!
2009-06-08 - Will I ever stop listening to this CD!! It was only $6.97!! Turn it all the way up and join the Party!!! I love this CD!!
For the serious Pantera fan.
2009-02-04 - The live performances are full of Phil's ridiculous and belligerent rants and ramblings. Musically, it's your standard Pantera awesomeness without the studio polishing. It's impressive to hear Dimebag pull off his solos without the numerous layers and overdubs that always seem to get mixed in. The two studio tracks are good, but I would probably just get them off iTunes or something if I wasn't a serious Pantera fan.
pantera cd
2008-06-01 - the cd i ordered arrive before the time that was set and in perfect condition
Bittersweet
2008-05-16 - This album brings back a lot of nostalgia for the early nineties when I listened to Pantera pretty much every day. I just put this disk back on rotation, and over a decade later I still can't believe how good this band was. There will never be another Pantera, and no one today even comes close in my humble opinion.
I'd have to agree with the majority of reviewers for this disk who have commented on the high quality of the live recordings. Dimebag and Vinnie Paul sound extremely tight (of course), Rex's bass comes through pretty well, and Phil's voice is devestating. If you are a Pantera fan, and never got a hold of this one, I highly recommend it.
Great Live Album
2008-04-07 - This album rocks! It grabs you by the throat from the opening song and does not let go till it ends! The playing is brutal and spot on. Alselmo sounds great. This is a must have for Pantera fans. A truly great live album!!
