Editorial Review:
House of Wax tells the story of a group of friends who fall prey to a sinister plot while passing through a small town on their way to a college football game.
Description of House of Wax [Blu-ray]:
You know the one about the group of horny kids who get offed one by one? Yeah, so do director Jaume Collet-Serra and his screenwriters, who have updated an old Vincent Price flick and sandwiched it between hearty slices of The Blair Witch Project and various Friday the 13th films. Lots of WB and Fox network hotties--including 24's Elisha Cuthbert, One Tree Hill's Chad Michael Murray, and, well, Paris Hilton--have car trouble and stumble onto a town populated by real killer personalities. The R-rated result is fairly gruesome and, though no one ever quite looks frightened enough, Collet-Serra knows his way around a jolting suspense sequence or two. Cuthbert and an unintentionally funny Murray (striking ludicrous poses as some kind of real toughie) act more like angry ex-lovers than the fraternal twins they're supposed to be; Hilton acts bored while her real-life video scandal is exploited for ironic kicks; and the film heads shamelessly over-the-top with each new twist. As an exercise in bloody mayhem, it has a few novel touches, but you can easily find better scares. --Steve Wiecking
House of Wax [Blu-ray] Reviews:
I'm a HUGE fan of Paris Hilton
2009-10-26 - I bought this movie because Paris Hilton was in it. I'm a huge fan of Paris Hilton. This movie was amazing but as much as I love Paris, her death scene was amazingly cool. Yeah it would suck to have a pole thrown through your head but something about it was good. Paris had amazingly good acting, even my step-mom was taken by surprise. I've been a fan of Paris Hilton since day 1 and I own everything she has came out with. My room is decked with Paris Hilton stuff. Overall, the movie was good, kind of gross at parts but you'll enjoy it!!
Mixed bag
2009-10-13 - House of Wax certainly had an original idea. Even though there was already a Wax movie (made over 50 years ago) this movie was still very entertaining. It had enough gore and twistedness to make it interesting. Even though I like horror movies, some parts of this movie were hard for me to look at (a good mark of a horror movie)
I didn't understand why the wax couldn't simply have peeled off Wade's skin instead of taking his skin along with it. Poor guy, he deserved better.
There were a few things about the movie that just didn't work. The scene where Paris Hilton was stripping for her boyfriend went on too long - it was clearly fanservice so boys could ogle her - but she did a decent job trying to fight Vincent off. I found the idea of a literal house of wax to be silly. Over time the floors would sag, the walls would bow, etc. (that's a lot of wax!) And the very ending with the revelation of a third child was just cheesy. I suppose it meant we can look forward to a sequel of this...
Overall a decent horror movie, most of it was good and creepy and I would have given it a higher rating if not for the bad things that I pointed out.

Paris Hilton House of Wax Review
2009-09-21 - The movie is a fun watch. The FX at the end of the movie were very cool. They all did a good job. The fact that Paris Hilton is in the movie makes it even better! We love you Paris!!!

House of Wax Blu-Ray
2009-08-27 - I really enjoyed this movie, kind of a guilty pleasure. The story is decent, the suspense is good, the acting is pretty good considering Paris Hilton is in it. It's not the scariest movie you have ever seen but its a very well made horror flick. I was very pleased to see that the transition from DVD to Blu-Ray went well. The movie looks great in High Def.
