Editorial Review:
Filmed in Hollywood and hosted by Emmy? Award winning actress, Patricia Heaton, ("Everybody Loves Raymond"), it's a night of sidesplitting stand-up comedy from some of the funniest comedians around ? who all just happen to be Christian. Seven comedians including Taylor Mason, Thor Ramsey and Michael Jr., all give witty performances with jokes and stories that poke fun at the daily trials and tribulations we can all relate to. If you're looking for funny, your prayers have been answered!
Description of Thou Shalt Laugh:
Christian comics aren't all that different from other comics on Thou Shalt Laugh, a frequently funny, live stage show featuring seven comedians and hosted by Everybody Loves Raymond star Patricia Heaton. Recent father Thor Ramsey discusses the horrors of trying to unwrap a stuffed toy: "I can only imagine someone wrapping this at a state correctional facility. 'If I’m not going anywhere, you’re not going anywhere.'" Ramsey also discusses the most effective marketing of Jesus, in his opinion: "It’s the fish symbol on bumper stickers. The response to that was the Darwin fish with legs. Our response to that is a bigger fish eating their fish." Michael Jr. explains how subliminal communication works with a new woman he's dating, especially when he's sending signals about not having a fancy car: "If Yugo with me to the Fiesta..." He talks, too, about his position on alternative lifestyles: "Someone asked me, 'Are you pro-gay?' No, I'm not pro-gay. I'm not amateur gay either. I didn't even know they have a league." Fortysomething Jeff Allen gets into domestic bliss: "My father told me one thing about marriage: Do you want to be right, or do you want to be happy? I'm a happy, happy, happy man." Teresa Roberts Logan describes her struggle with weight loss: "They tell you to flavor those weight-loss milkshakes with your choice of additives. I added Reese's Peanut Butter Cups." Also on the bill are Gilbert Esquivel, Joby Saad, and Taylor Mason. --Tom Keogh
Thou Shalt Laugh Reviews:
Pleasantly Surprised!
2008-07-20 - My first thought about watching a 'Christian' comedy show was that all the jokes were going to be about the Bible or Christian things (and how funny could that be?).
This was wonderful. It's great to watch a show that's family-friendly, with a little 'edge' (but nothing overboard), and that's actually FUNNY. I'm so glad there's an alternative to the typical SNL-comedy-club routine.
P.S. I read the reviewer who gave this dvd only 1 star. Geez, did he actually watch the show? Everything he said was completely opposite of what the show was really about. Some people will slam anything that is considered 'Christian'...
Still laughing
2008-07-18 - The best comedy we've seen in years. We even shared our CD with our "very" Christian neighbors and they shared it with their grown children and grandchildren. It's a great CD for everyone.
wonderful clean fun for the whole family
2008-06-05 - I had seen this video a couple of times and enjoyed it so much I decided to purchase it so I would have something fun for company. With all the different styles of comedy displayed, it has something for everyone. It is so refreshing to watch comedians who are talented enough to be really funny without profanity.
Hilarious
2008-06-02 - In a day when most TV and cinema production's, so-called 'humor' has disgusting sexual content, what a relief to know that good, clean, belly-laughing humor still is possible and actually exists. This DVD is a good example.
AWESOME
2008-05-30 - We LOVE this video! It's packed with hilarious and clean comedy for the whole family. My kids especially enjoy Mason Taylor. They have practically worn out that portion of the DVD!! Highly recommended.
