  • Editorial Review:
Screen sensation Patrick Swayze (POINT BREAK, DIRTY DANCING) stars as Jack Charles, a lovable small-time crook with big-time dreams! Jack's latest scheme of hitting it big is interrupted when two strangers -- his kids -- suddenly appear on his doorstep to reclaim him as their dad. Before long, Jack and the kids are racing toward the biggest heist of his career -- pursued by the cops and the FBI on a hair-raising, action-packed cross-country chase! This nonstop hit delivers an arresting combination of action and comedy sure to entertain everyone!

    Description of Father Hood:
Patrick Swayze is a goofball criminal who suddenly finds himself strapped with his two kids. His teenage daughter escapes from an abusive orphanage, demanding her father rescue her younger brother. Dad, who may be a thief, is also a softie who decides to rescue his kids by kidnapping them from a school bus. The plot is lackluster and reveals few surprises as Swayze tries to follow his life of crime, only to be thwarted by his needy children. Child abuse, parental abandonment, and crime do not exactly make for slapstick, and this is too leaden to thrill as an adventure flick. Swayze, with his annoying laugh and manic mannerisms, is less convincing than the kids (Sabrina Lloyd and Brian Bonsall), who exude realistic desperation and pain. --Rochelle O'Gorman

2009-02-03 - this dvd arrivered on time and inexcelleant condition.I would recommend this dvd to anyone that is a Patrick Swazye fan. I really enjoyed it.

    Yaawwwwnnnnnnnn 2 Star Review
2006-08-28 - This movie is offensive and probably would be beyond hurtful to children actually caught up in our foster/adoption system. However, the biggest issue this film has is that it is totally boring. Although the script was written with an everything-but-the-kitchen-sink mentality it fails to capture the interest of child or adult.

interesting premise, horrible execution 3 Star Review
2006-03-10 - Ah, what could have been? Interesting premise: 2 kids in foster care/reform school (?) break out to find real dad (Patrick Swayze) to take them across the country to New Orleans. Real dad turns out to be a con artist one step ahead of the law and some bad guys. Movie then disintegrates into bad chase movie punctuated by dysfunctional family squabbling as dad doesn't really want anything to do with kids. Meanwhile there's a plot about abuses going on at the state children's facility and a reporter (Halle Berry) who's doing an investigation, and covering their cross-country flight (which has been labeled a kidnapping). Much confusion later, kids eventually reunite with Dad. Crappy dialogue abounds, and Swayze chews up the scenery as an over-the-hill rocker/con man suddenly saddled with a teenage daughter and a younger son. Josh Lucas has a cameo role (one of his first movies) as the daughter's object of affection; he plays a college intern who befriended her at the facility and she mistakenly confuses his friendship with love, and he just happens to live in New Orleans...so this is really why the girl wants to go there. Sabrina Lloyd of Sliders plays the girl, but I can't remember any of the characters' names; that should tell you something.
