  • Editorial Review:
Featuring Master Hirokazu Kanazawa and his assitants Manabu Murakami, Nobuaki Kanazawa and Paul Walker you will not only learn the kata s leading up to Dan rank but also the bunkai of each and every move in these katas Including the Heians and Tekki s

Only a true master of the art of Karate can teach this information as he learnt it from his teachers and as well in the JKA Instructors Training program back in the mid 1950 s.

If you want to learn the kata the way an unquestioned Master teaches the kata this is for you. He teaches it slowly and then at full speed.

He points out the common errors and the little things that make the kata into the way it is suppose to be performed.

KANAZAWA MASTERING KARATE: KYU KATA Reviews:
    Kanazawa Karate 4 Star Review
2009-10-13 - Very good DVD, helped me remember Shotokan forms I learned many years ago. Also in practically new condition, no damage or blemishes. Very satisfied with price & condition.

Good supplement to my training 4 Star Review
2007-07-27 - Hirakozu Kanazawa needs no introduction, the legendary shotokan master, grand champion of JKA annual championship twice (once with a broken wrist).

It was really good to see him pouring instructions and describing details of techniques in Kyu kata.

What I found really unique in this DVD is that, Sensei Kanazwa describes very clearly what makes a strong technique and a weak technique.

Clearly these DVDs are not for beginners. If you have some shotokan experience, then it makes sense to review the DVDs and listen to Sensei Kanazawa's view point.

Do not plan to learn the katas from this DVD. I see a slight variation of techniques (very minor) from traditional JKA and master Asai JKS.

    Falsely advertised 1 Star Review
2006-10-30 - I have trained under Kanazawa and was excited to see that he had made a dvd containing all the Shotokan kata only to find that 6 out of the 26 kata were demonstrated in it. The cover and Amazon advertisement clearly state that all kata (and it names a few) are contained in the dvd but they're not even mentioned. This is clearly false advertising for this item. Please DON'T purchase it. It's useless.

Sad to see this man make a fool of himself 1 Star Review
2006-07-13 - Sad to see an instructor, once a household man in Shotokan circles, get involved in such a project. At a time when he should be sharing his knowledge and experience, he is being forced to try and act as if he were forty years younger. It was embarrassing to see him make a spectacle if himself in front of a camera. Shameful, actually!

Kanazawa Mastering Karate-Kyu Kata 1 Star Review
    2006-03-24 - I enjoyed watching this dvd.
It explained only the application for the complex and intricate techniques that wasn't straight-forward without boring the audience with the more basic application.
I am looking forward to seeing others in the series - Dan Kata and Kumite.
It contained very interesting and useful information.
