Not for You Reviews:
I really like this single
2008-03-24 - I am a huge PJ fan. Not for You is a pretty good song. But seriously, if you are buying this single for that song you are in for a treat. Outta my Mind is pure D awesome!! Kind of Like Yellow Ledbetter on Jeremy, just not as hyped. This is a top 5 PJ song for me. It is a really mellow sounding jam. It is just a classic. If you like PJ, don't pass this up. It's usually super cheap (under 2 bucks)
Out of My Mind...All of the Time
2004-05-07 - "Not For You" is a proven winner, and "Out Of My Mind" is a decent b-side. Pearl Jam...one of the few bands still releasing worthwhile singles.
If you like Pearl Jam, this IS for you.
2003-04-15 - A lot of us know about Pearl Jam's long and dramatic history... but to make a long story short, let's look at the record the main track's off of. Unlike the records before it (Ten and Vs.), Vitalogy moved a bit away from the frustrated arena rock the band was becoming known for, and the band started creating slower (but still angsty, depending on the song) pieces. ... But, to make a long story short...
1) Not For You - Rocking, and more attention-grabbing than the usual single ("THIS IS NOT FOR YOUUUU!!!", yells Eddie). Yes, it's mellower than Pearl Jam's other great hits, such as Jeremy and Even Flow... but who cares? It's still the same quality. Listen to the song thoroughly... especially from 2:08 to 2:36. True art.
2) Out of My Mind - Similar to several Alice in Chains songs and Nirvana's "You Know You're Right", this track is extremely well-done. The repetitive words (chorus? haha) only add to the song, keeping the emotion flowing. One must wonder why THIS wasn't a single instead... it's catchier and more listenable... but still, if it was put on Vitalogy, it might disturb its atmosphere (despite sounding a bit like YKYR, it's too catchy and singable to fit the subtleness of the record).
I got it for a buck (even though it's used; used records are just as good, except cheaper), which makes it one of the best purchases I've ever made. Even if it's only two songs... they're both great. Check it out, if you're a Pearl Jam fan and/or collector.
Good Enough For Pearl Jam Fanatics
2002-11-26 - For you Pearl Jam fanatics that haven't purchased this CD single yet -- what are you waiting for?
The NOT FOR YOU single (same from the album) is a staple of Pearl Jam's early stuff, and it's Eddie Vedder's ode to youth, rebellion and THE anthem for the "children of the 90's."
OUT OF MY MIND is a cool live performance, and for those who have seen PJ live, a great keep sake to the power they have as performers. It's also a pretty cool song.
(As a side note, the packaging is neat -- a cool little tribute to them old vinyl 45 records -- "VIVA LA VINYL!"
The heart and soul of vitalogy!
2002-04-10 - Maybe one of the greatest but underrated songs in vitalogy has to be "Not For You". With this song, PJ reafirms their position as the band that speaks for a generation, and trashes that title as well. This song asks youth to take a look at themselves and free themselves from the control that society or industries have on them. Its also a statement to these corporations and to the media to stay out of the way. To all the posers that have come along the way to stay out.
Its a very good song.
In this single you also get "out of my mind" an improvisation that you will get hooked on. This song clearly represents a huge part of the Pearl Jam you get to hear live, and also the creativity and ability of musicmanship that they possess
This is a must have for PJ fans and a good buy for everybody else!
