Editorial Review:

Mark Blake draws on his own interviews with band members as well as the group’s friends, road crew, musical contemporaries, former housemates, and university colleagues to produce a riveting history of one of the biggest rock bands of all time. We follow Pink Floyd from the early psychedelic nights at UFO, to the stadium-rock and concept-album zenith of the seventies, to the acrimonious schisms of the late ’80s and ’90s. Along the way there are fascinating new revelations about Syd Barrett’s chaotic life at the time of Piper at the Gates of Dawn, the band’s painstaking and Byzantine recording sessions at Abbey Road, and the fractious negotiations to bring about their fragile, tantalizing reunion in Hyde Park.

Meticulous, exacting, and ambitious as any Pink Floyd album, Comfortably Numb is the definitive account of this most adventurous—and most English—rock band.

Comfortably Numb: The Inside Story of Pink Floyd Reviews:
Excellent Primer 5 Star Review
2009-10-15 - This is first book I've read about Pink Floyd, despite loving their music for decades. Perhaps there are better books, I wouldn't know, but I'm glad I read this one and I enjoyed it cover-to-cover.

Awesome 5 Star Review
2009-09-26 - Very prompt delivery and the book is awesome. Without a doubt the best I've read yet about Pink Floyd. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Great Book 5 Star Review
2009-09-14 - This book is a fantastic view into the Pink Floyd. Anyone, from casual fans to die-hards, can appreciate the backstories to the songs, albums, tours, and lives of the bandmates. This book is a terrific read.

A great rock 'n' roll read 4 Star Review
2009-09-12 - This is one of the best rock bios out there. The author did his homework and pulled together the band's 40+ year history succinctly. I like how the main characters are re-evaluated and given a fresh coat of paint. Roger Waters is perennially characterized as the band's "bad guy," but after reading this book, you will also see that he was Pink Floyd's primary creative engine, pushing other members to new creative heights. Granted, his bullying of Rick Wright was unforgivable, but he's also painted as an artist who doesn't make compromises, right or wrong. Gilmour, meanwhile, is seen as an intelligent, easy-going bloke, but ultimately, he was Floyd's frontman, not as their strongest (nor most prolific) songwriter. Syd Barrett is giving plenty of coverage, but the reality is that few people really knew him and he was simply a weird, elusive guy. Maybe that's the way it should be. Suffice to say, Comfortably Numb is a ripping good read and I *highly* recommend it.

Biblical 5 Star Review
