Editorial Review:
Atom Heart Mother was Pink Floyds first number one album featuring an extended instrumental suite co-written and arranged by avant-garde composer Ron Geesin. Thirty-five years on, Ron Geesin revisits the work and describes the circumstances surrounding the creation of the album. We also hear the views of David Gilmour, Roger Waters, Richard Wright and Nick Mason. This comprehensive DVD features the only known footage of a performance of Atom Heart Mother with the complete brass and choir conducted by John Aldiss from the Bath Festival in 1970. Also included are reviews of performances of the prototype work The Amazing Pudding performed by Pink Floyd.
Pink Floyd - Atom Heart Mother - The Ultimate Critical Review Reviews:
Fascinating Musicological Analysis of a Great Album
2008-11-28 - If you have any interest in music theory and/or musicology and either like or are curious about Pink Floyd, this DVD is for you. Although the Floyd has dismissed the album that this DVD discusses, I consider it a turning point that led to future masterpieces like Meddle. Except for some of the silly syllables that the chorus has to sing, I consider the experiment between Geesin and the Floyd a successful one and this DVD shows why.
Floyd was still finding their way after the dismissal of founder Syd Barrett. Since the remaining members were unable to pen any pop singles, they continued to develop what was to become their trademark: the long melancholy space jam. First hinted at on Saucer Full of Secrets, the Atom Heart Mother album dedicates a entire side to a complete evolution of a space jam with the development of themes and a clear beginning, middle, and end. This bridged the gap between a jam and a composition which led to the likes of Echos and Shine On You Crazy Diamond.
This DVD gives you insight into the inner-workings of the title-track. I highly recommend it.
pink floyd atom heart mother dvd
2007-12-05 - totally wrong to sell this as something pertinent. geeson complains and rightfully so[some insight to floyd]. the description of dvd states 20" of movement titles with breasty milk, funky dung and mind your throat please which never happened. there was no 20" of music anywhere to be found[outside of pink floyd chamber music]. awful viewing of bath festival that it should have never been stated as a selling point. just critics everywhere with a little pink floyd[felt like a minute of roger stating something]. when the hell is there going to be a pink floyd anthology with people on the inside: roger david nick rick etc telling it like it was.
Don't waste your time and money !!
2007-08-24 - Almost all DVD time is worthless interviews, just few minutes of music.
Don't expect to listen more than a couple of short live cuts of AHM, and that's all!!
Some good stuff here and there
2007-02-01 - Not too much footage of any clear quality. Not much Floyd in general. It has some good moments though. I was expecting something different. I would have liked to see a whole performance of Atom Heart Mother.
rare footage - yes please
2006-05-09 - Sure the rare Bath footage is on the roguh side, but i'd rather see it rough than not see it all!!! As a Floyd fan, thanks for the that glimpse! Seen this footage any better elsewhere? And as to the critics, well they provoke some reaction! I nearly threw the remote at the tv on a few occasions... but i kinda like it rather than all sycophants.
