With her magnifying glass and fingerprint powder in hand Nancy Drew leaves River Heights for La-La-Land...but not to meet that guy on Smallville as her boyfriend Ned fears. No she's out to solve one of the greatest mysteries ever: the death of movie star Dehlia Draycott. But the bigger mystery is how our perky plaid-clad sleuth will fit in with the text-messaging teen queens of mean she meets at Hollywood High.Running Time: 95 min.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: ACTION/ADVENTURE/FRIENDS UPC: 085391160670 Manufacturer No: 116067

    Description of Nancy Drew:
Nancy Drew is an iconic girl detective created by Carolyn Keene with a passion for mystery and all things old. The small-town Nancy Drew (played by Julia Roberts' niece Emma Roberts) is about to experience a serious case of culture shock as she heads to Hollywood on an extended business trip with her father Carson Drew (Tate Donovan) and prepares to join the 21st century (well, sort of) at Hollywood High. Having promised her father that she'll give up sleuthing in favor of becoming a "normal" teenager, Nancy tries her best to resist the lure of the age-old mystery of famous actress Dehlia Draycott's (Laura Harring) death, but living in Dehlia's old booby-trapped mansion full of clues proves too powerful a force for Nancy to resist. Feeling completely out of place with high school peers who prove self-absorbed and obsessed with fashion, Nancy makes an unlikely friend in 12-year-old Corky (Josh Flitter), the brother of one of the meanest girls at school. Hormones and hero worship land Corky right in the middle of Nancy's dangerous detective work and inspire some good old-fashioned jealousy when Nancy's close friend Ned (Max Thieriot) visits from River Heights. Nancy's deductive skills are as sharp as ever, and her inspired detective work will profoundly impact the lives of complete stranger Jane Brighton (Rachael Leigh Cook), her own father, and a host of others. Offering a faster pace for modern audiences than the classic Nancy Drew films, this 2007 movie is sure to enthrall a whole new generation of tweens and teens while simultaneously living up to their parents' expectations. Rated PG for mild violence, thematic material, and brief language. --Tami Horiuchi

    Nancy Drew Reviews:
Refreshing and fun to watch 5 Star Review
2008-08-29 - I watched the DVD with my 13 year old granddaughter and we loved it. I remembered when my mom bought the first Nancy Drew books for me and my four sisters each read them in turn. I now have them and my daughter read them in her tweens. Now my granddaughter is reading them. Some things are timeless, even with today's hip kids.

Entertaining...but not true to originial character 3 Star Review
2008-08-28 - I enjoyed the movie very much, but was disapointed in the departure from the book series characters. Nancy and Ned were not high school teenagers and Mr. Drew was not a struggling attorney hoping for a better job. There were definite moments of recognizing the 'real' sleuthing of Nancy Drew however, and is a nice one to watch with my daughter - who is 4 - and is now captivated with Nancy Drew!

fun adventure of sleuthing 3 Star Review
2008-08-21 - Nancy has relocated to Los Angeles because her father has accepted an assignment there. Promising her father not to do any more sleuthing, Nancy tries to fit in at a nearby high school. However, Nancy is on a different wavelength than with the rest of the students there. She's deemed old fashioned and behind on time, despite her courteous manners.

Meanwhile, while staying at an old mansion, circumstances involving a dead actress, Dehlia Draycott, and a hidden will tempts Nancy into sleuthing. Pretty soon, she discovers herself and new friends in midst of dangers...all behind her father's back.

I found *Nancy Drew* to be an enjoyable film even though I found some parts to be a bit cheesy. Nonetheless, it's a good ol' dose of fun to watch.

Fun trip down nostalgic lane 3 Star Review
2008-08-13 - As a child I was a bib fan of the books and wanted for nostalgia purposes to give this movie a shot. I went into it with no expectations what-so-ever. Consequently I found it a fun romp down memory lane. The movie is almost a farcical look at today's youth. Nancy, as a character, has not changed much. She is intelligent and forthright. The world she finds herself has changed. She a blast from the past to the people in LA and as far as her peers go, an unwelcome one. The movie, just as Nancy, doesn't take itself too seriously and that is what makes it enjoyable. You can chuckle and laugh at the predicaments without feeling you are making fun of the movie, which is what I figured I would probably end up doing in order to enjoy myself. Carolyn Keene, whoever she really is, would have been proud to be linked to this movie.

An adorable family film 4 Star Review
2008-08-12 - Cute Emma Roberts carries the iconic role of Nancy Drew effortlessly. The mystery is intriguing-the clothes are adorable and the entertainment value is just pure fun. Highly recommended.
