WHEN ONE OF THEM BECOMES MINDBLOWINGLY, QUITE LITERALLY STINKING RICH BY SELLING AN INVENTION, A PAIR OF LIFE-LONG BEST FRIENDS & NEIGHBORS (THEY EVEN WORK AT THE SAME COMPANY) FINDS THEIR BOND BREAKING AS THE OTHER GUY START TO GO CRAZY ... WITH ENVY.

    Description of Envy (Widescreen Edition):
Envy is a funny movie, but it's more funny peculiar than funny ha-ha, so enjoyment is purely a matter of personal taste. When Nick (Jack Black) invents an aerosol spray that makes dog-poop disappear (think of the boon to society!), he reaps a fortune overnight and sends his friend, co-worker and neighbor Tim (Ben Stiller) into a tailspin of simmering envy, since he had no faith in Nick's get-rich-quick scheme and declined his offer of 50-50 partnership. What makes this potentially raucous plot peculiar is that it sets up the situation and proceeds to ignore its most comedic implications, opting instead for a sub-plot involving bows, arrows, a dead horse, and an eccentric vagrant (Christopher Walken, offering reliable comic relief) who coaches Tim on the joys of neighborly blackmail. All the while, Envy suffers a comedic identity crisis, giving Black and Stiller a few good laughs (along with their on-screen wives, played by Rachel Weisz and Saturday Night Live's Amy Poehler) while director Barry Levinson struggles to reach a quirky balance of morality play and blue-collar farce. He never quite gets there. --Jeff Shannon

    Envy (Widescreen Edition) Reviews:
Chris Walken Forever! 5 Star Review
2009-12-05 - OK, I'm obviously insane, but I was cold sober and yet I had the best time with this movie. I am so glad I didn't listen to these bad reviews. During that scene with Stiller and Walken and the horsetail getting tangled in the windshield wipers, I was laughing so hard I was seeing stars, my hand pounding my bed frame. I got the movie from my library to see the one and only Chris Walken, expecting to just fast forward to his cameo and let the rest go, but skimming through, it looked like he was going to be doing more than a cameo, so I sat down and watched the whole thing. I'm so glad I did. Not only is CW The Man as always and in it quite a bit with that crazy long hippie hair and energetic swagger, but Stiller and Black are fun as usual. Amy Poehler is great, too. The songs were cracking me up. The movie is just plain fun. I can't dissect it or analyze it to convert you. You either like bathroom humor or you don't. Something like that. I can only throw my hat in the see-this-movie ring. I just wish the dvd had a gag reel.

I found the poo...it's in this DVD case! 1 Star Review
    2009-07-07 - ***This is in truth a ZERO-star movie***

Apparently studio head Jeffrey Katzenberg later apologized for making this movie.

Jack Black and Ben Stiller are both funny guys, but not in this movie. Poor writing, direction, and editing didn't help.

Really, it's one of the worst movies I have ever seen. I kept thinking that I should wait another five minutes and it would get better. It didn't. The first five minutes are probably the best. Don't waste your life like I did.

    Comedy Movies 5 Star Review
2009-05-09 - The product was received in a timely. The movie was in very good condition with no problems.

Don't be fooled. 1 Star Review
2009-04-16 - Anyone who voted this more than a 1 is having a laugh at your expense. This movie is the most execrable, painful, nauseatingly dull, and insultingly unfunny film I have ever seen. It is east and humor is west. There are no redeeming qualities to this film beyond mere seconds of Christopher Walken's performance that are like sunny rays peeking through the dead sky of the sad humorless vortex of this film. Do not watch it. Do not buy it. If at all possible, do not permit it in your home.

"Envy" is the closest thing you can get to a real-life haunted relic with a tortured past. It will riddle your home with wailing spirits. Chevy Chase will visit. There will be no more hope.

Please. Do not buy this movie. Forget you ever saw or heard or read anything about this movie. Just stay away. I beg you.

This movie is HILARIOUS! 5 Star Review
2009-02-15 - I can't believe anyone would rate this movie less than 5 stars. It is smart and hysterical. I think Ben and Jack were great together. We watch this one often, and constantly quote the hilarious lines.
