Description of Sehnsucht:
There's not a big precedent for German bands succeeding in the United States, the '80s bombast-rock of the Scorpions notwithstanding. Rammstein, however, may be the macho men to get the job done, at least in a concert setting. Decidedly Teutonic and militant in sound and lyrics--they sing in German and their commanding semi-industrial metal is compelling--Rammstein garnered rock-radio airplay for the catchy sing-along "Du Hast," which translates here as "You Hate" and bears a striking musical resemblance to the Golden Earring tune "Twilight Zone." While Sehnsucht's 11 songs are solid, it's the live shows where everything gels. There, KISS pyrotechnics and disturbing NIN-like images, for example, complement Rammstein's forceful music. Without the visual stimuli, Sehnsucht (which means "longing") is still a strong effort, but live is where the album's Germanic gems really shine. --Katherine Turman
Sehnsucht Reviews:
Great!
2009-11-03 - OK, about all I can say is this album is great. Just buy it. Listen to the samples or Youtube Rammstein if you are unfamiliar with them. Dont buy it and complain that the lyrics are in German. The lyrics are in German but they rock. Great album to put in the CD player and drive. Just watch your speed and watch for redlight cameras. Also a great album to listen to while working out.
Rammstein Rocks!
2009-08-14 - What raw intensity! I never heard the term "Industrial" Metal before, however, it
definitely suits this style of rock. Certainly has an edgey presentation....which I absolutely love.
Am not well versed in German rock. I don't understand a word they are saying, which is irrelevent....I feel the music to my core, as the CD is turned up MEGA LOUD!!(The only way to listen to it, truly.)
My first exposure to them was while viewing "The Matrix" in 1999. Du Hast,#5. From that moment, I was hooked! There is not one song in this selection that I don't like, which is unusual. I do have a favorite, however, #9.
This will be my second purchase cos the first CD has a few skips.
Long live Rammstein, and their unique, in-your-face style! Keep it coming!
Awesome.
2009-02-12 - I love this album, all the tracks have been added to my playlist.
The delivery for this item was as prompt as can be.
GREAT Band & CD
2008-10-31 - This is the THIRD CD of Sensucht that I have purcahsed. I wore the first one out by listening to it WAY too much ;) The second CD got lost in the shuffle in a cross-country move. This CD was the first CD I had ever heard of Rammstein's, and I have been a dedicated fan ever since!
Put some amps into it.
2008-10-07 - I've been listening to Rammstein for years now.
Lately they've adopted the over-simplified 'Hate America' jingoism so popular in Europe and the intelligentsia press, but that doesn't mean their earlier music wasn't absorbing and fresh.
This is metal meant to be listened to with an edge, and I find putting 2,000 watts into it produces the intended effect. Believe me, Rammstein wasn't made for your 20 watt car stereo.
If you want to get going, and metal helps you go there, here's where you need to go.
