Editorial Review: Studio: Uni Dist Corp (music) Release Date: 04/23/2004 Rammstein - Lichtspielhaus Reviews: Great footage, odd presentation 2009-09-27 - An excellent video for any Rammstein fan. I do not recommend it as highly as Vollkerball, which had more complete concert footage. However, Lichtspielhaus includes not only live footage, but also a collection of all of Rammstein's studio videos. These alone make it worth the purchase.
There is a very nice blend of older and newer songs - going all the way back to Herzeleid.
Highly recommended.
Essential Rammstein 2009-09-22 - Lichtspeilhaus is the quintesential video archive of Rammstein prior to their Reise, Reise and Rosenrot albums. It kicks major butt! Among my favorites are the Tarantino-esque DU HAST video which reminds me of Pulp Fiction, with an awesome shot of a guy on fire walking around in slow motion. It's so beautiful you can't look away, even in the making of featurette of German gangster-style video, no one told the stuntman when to stop because of how entrancing it was. The guy eventually dumped himself in the kiddie pool after his suit got uncomfortably hot when the director failed to say cut.
Among the many creative videos, Seeman is the most powerful and moving as both the video and in the live footage. The song is so beautiful you can see some people crying in the live footage as they sing along.
Another more interesting video was SONNE in which Rammstein is the Seven Dwarfs digging up gold to be sniffed up like cocaine for Snow White. Then there's that epic shot of Richard Z. Kruspe with that Gigantic guitar.
My all time favorite is DU RIESCHT SO GUT '98, is which the band becomes werewolfs hunting down this rather beautiful gal in a red dress. Then Till Lindemann turns into a wolf creature comprised of all six wolves as one. Then the funniest moment is where Richard walks into the ballroom wearing a dress.
In all, this is an absolute must-have for any Rammstein fan! But I still like ICH WILL, where Flake (pronounced Flak-uh, the band's master keyboardist) is sitting in the bank with a huge bomb vest.
Excellent for hardcore fans 2009-05-30 - This DVD includes all of Rammstein's videos and a few concerts. An excellent piece for fans.
Great mix of videos and live concert clips 2009-01-23 - Rammstein at their best. If this does not fire you up you are already dead.
Essential viewing for all Rammstein fans 2008-01-18 - Rammstein has set the standard by which all future music DVDs will be measured. You get all their videos, some interesting interviews, and even a selection of live concert footage from shows other than their massive "Live Aus Berlin" project.
The sound and video quality are uniformly excellent. The production overall is terrific. My one issue is the somewhat annoying menu system. It's pretty cool the first few times you look at the DVD, but later when you just want to get to a specific video, you have to wait around for lengthy animations and such. It just takes a while to navigate. This is, however, a small complaint.
The sound and video quality of the live material is not quite as good. It looks more like a document of the show rather than an intentional DVD shooting. The camera is a bit shaky at times and the audio is not amazing. This doesn't really affect things all that much though - the power of their live performances comes through crystal clear.
Every Rammstein fan needs to buy this DVD immediately. If you're new to Rammstein, this is a great place to start. They have a lot of great videos and the concert footage will give you an excellent idea of what their live shows are live. You'll find many hours of tranzmetal enjoyment here. Lets hope they eventually release a "Lichtspielhaus 2" with their latest videos!
