    Rammstein - Lichtspielhaus Reviews:
Worth buying for the music videos alone! 4 Star Review
2009-12-16 - If you're reading this, you're probably already a Rammstein fan. What you probably want to know is what's on this DVD. Well, its' three-and-a-half hours of content consist of 3 main things: music videos, making-of interviews, and live concert footage. The 12 music videos (from the band's first 3 albums) can be described as follows:
Du Riechst So Gut: Apparently the band didn't have much money for their first video, so it basically just shows the band members and some flowers.
Seemann: Another low-budget video, but this one is amazing none-the-less. It shows the band pulling a boat through sand as well as several different women in water or surrounded by candles. It is simply beautiful.
Rammstein: Consists mostly of images from the movie Lost Highway and lead singer Till Lindemann wearing a flaming jacket on stage.
Engel: This video is largely based on the movie From Dusk Till Dawn and shows the band at a strip club. This song deserves better.
Du Hast: The video for Rammstein's most well-known song features an explosion and a man burning alive as the band watches.
Du Riechst So Gut '98: A completely new video for the song made with more money than the original.
Stripped: Till sings entirely in English for this Depeche Mode cover. The video is black-and-white but is still beautiful. It focuses on Olympic events starting in ancient Greece and then in modern times. The 'Greece' portion also shows the ancient Greeks' fascination with the human body and features tasteful nudity. This video is a celebration of the human spirit and I always feel so free watching divers silhouette against the sky. Beautiful!
Sonne: The music video for my favorite song portrays the band members as the seven dwarfs, even though there are only six of them. This is nothing like Disney, however. The Snow White in this video is mean and self-centered and doesn't appreciate what the dwarfs do for her. This is a live-action video, not an animated one.
Links 2-3-4: The video for this metal anthem shows ants marching and headbanging to the song. 'Links 2-3-4' means 'left 2-3-4'.
Ich Will: This bloody and violent music video shows the band robbing a bank for the simple purpose of becoming famous.
Mutter: This sad yet beautiful video is about the bond between a mother and her son, for whom she is willing to go the distance.
Feuer Frei!: This is one of the worst music videos I've seen because the song is ruined by scenes from the action movie XXX, which I don't care for.
Five of these music videos are featured in subtitled making-of documentaries that contain in-depth interviews with all of the band members. Those five videos are Du Hast, Du Riechst So Gut '98, Sonne, Links 2-3-4, and Ich Will. Each somewhat lengthy documentary is very insightful and informative and features much more than just random behind-the-scenes footage. The third section of the DVD is a collection of concert highlights from six shows spanning '96 - '01, filmed in various places in Germany and Australia. The combined setlist is as follows:
    Herzeleid
    Seemann
    Spiel Mit Mir
    Heirate Mich
    Du Hast
    Sehnsucht
    Weisses Fleisch
    Asche Zu Asche
    Ich Will
    Links 2-3-4
In addition to the excellent quality of the live performances of these songs, Rammstein's live shows also feature pyrotechnics, multi-colored lights and smoke, costumes and make-up, and even dancing and Till's unique way of headbanging. Perhaps the most notable on-stage activity, however, is Lindemann doing cartwheels across the stage while wearing shoes that are shooting sparks. Clearly, Rammstein delivers an exciting live show that is full of both energy and fire hazards. However, 8 of the 10 songs performed here are already available live on the Live Aus Berlin DVD. I would have loved to see more performances of songs from Mutter as opposed to songs from Herzeleid and Sehnsucht, but on the other hand there's always the new Volkerball live DVD, which features many songs from 'Mutter' and 'Reise, Reise'. Hopefully, Rammstein will soon release a Lichtspielhaus Vol. 2 DVD with music videos from 'Reise, Reise', 'Rosenrot' and the new album 'Liebe Ist Fur Alle Da'. I'd buy it immediately, in the same way that I recommend you buy this DVD immediately. If you're a fan of Rammstein's first three albums you will not be disappointed.

    CRapmstein 1 Star Review
2009-11-29 - I guess I'll be the first one who goes against the masses here since I actually have musical tastes beyond blind adoration or intoxicated fan worship.

I rented Rammstein - Lichtspielhaus to see how corny this band that I've heard so much about was. And they're pretty corny.

The Rammstein DVD is a collection of stereotyped, cliched, and commonplace metal videos from the mildewed and overhyped German metal band, Rammstein.

The band's entire collection of promotional music videos, about 5 vapid, drained, and exhausted songs is all you get.

All of the videos are directed by some standard film geek German doofus, as you get to see the useless, "making of" sections which were created for about 4 of the lousy videos. There's so much self-aggrandizement that I skipped this section entirely.

You also get "live concert" highlights from debilitated performances in Düsseldorf, Berlin, and various money grabbing festivals except these have been "cleaned up" and edited so heavily that it just sounds like a fake "live concert".

That's all you get folks, which is basically 'nothing'. Save your money.

Great footage, odd presentation 5 Star Review
2009-09-27 - An excellent video for any Rammstein fan. I do not recommend it as highly as Vollkerball, which had more complete concert footage. However, Lichtspielhaus includes not only live footage, but also a collection of all of Rammstein's studio videos. These alone make it worth the purchase.

There is a very nice blend of older and newer songs - going all the way back to Herzeleid.

    Highly recommended.

    Essential Rammstein 5 Star Review
2009-09-22 - Lichtspeilhaus is the quintesential video archive of Rammstein prior to their Reise, Reise and Rosenrot albums. It kicks major butt! Among my favorites are the Tarantino-esque DU HAST video which reminds me of Pulp Fiction, with an awesome shot of a guy on fire walking around in slow motion. It's so beautiful you can't look away, even in the making of featurette of German gangster-style video, no one told the stuntman when to stop because of how entrancing it was. The guy eventually dumped himself in the kiddie pool after his suit got uncomfortably hot when the director failed to say cut.

Among the many creative videos, Seeman is the most powerful and moving as both the video and in the live footage. The song is so beautiful you can see some people crying in the live footage as they sing along.

Another more interesting video was SONNE in which Rammstein is the Seven Dwarfs digging up gold to be sniffed up like cocaine for Snow White. Then there's that epic shot of Richard Z. Kruspe with that Gigantic guitar.

My all time favorite is DU RIESCHT SO GUT '98, is which the band becomes werewolfs hunting down this rather beautiful gal in a red dress. Then Till Lindemann turns into a wolf creature comprised of all six wolves as one. Then the funniest moment is where Richard walks into the ballroom wearing a dress.

In all, this is an absolute must-have for any Rammstein fan! But I still like ICH WILL, where Flake (pronounced Flak-uh, the band's master keyboardist) is sitting in the bank with a huge bomb vest.

Excellent for hardcore fans 5 Star Review
2009-05-30 - This DVD includes all of Rammstein's videos and a few concerts. An excellent piece for fans.
