Editorial Review:
Feeling is what Ray Charles is all about--straight from the gut, exposed and vulnerable, real. And because it's the feeling of his music that matters most to him, whether it's found in the words he's singing or the notes he's playing, he has never seen any reason to limit himself to any particular style. He's played blues and gospel, jazz and soul, pop and rock and country, and for a half century now he's scored hits and created masterpieces with just about all of it--very often all of it at once! But no matter how startlingly dynamic his arrangements, the focus is always the feeling in Charles's voice. It's such an expressive, soulful instrument that, regardless of what's swirling around it--strings? gospel choir? pedal-steel guitar? all of the above?--it still demands the center of attention. Charles's version of country music takes the listener to unexpected places, musically and emotionally. Hearing all of his interactions with C&W pulled together like this simply amazes. --David Cantwell
Ray Charles: The Complete Country & Western Recordings 1959-1986 Reviews:
Ray Charles music
2009-09-28 - this is some of Ray Charles best music and the discs were in perfect shape.
One of Ray's BEST!
2009-08-04 - Absolutely fantastic! Soul wrenching sounds that brought me to tears just to hear such gutteral feelings expressed in his voice. I always loved the country sounds by Ray and have owned the original lp since it first came out many years ago. Was searching for cd of it when I ran across this set. Had never heard many of the songs before, but after listening to the samples, I knew I had to own it. If you love country and Ray, you will not be disappointed in this set. Since purchasing it, I have spent many hours listening to the songs and reminissing about the old times they bring back to mind. A little expensive, but well worth the price to me. Definitely one of the best purchases I have ever made on here.
Ray Charles complete country recordings
2009-05-09 - I love the music but I don't understand the play list of samples; songs do not match the titles so I am concerned that perhaps the package contains misprints with some CDs songs being duplicated and not all songs are contained this set.
Nice package, mostly good music
2008-04-07 - Very Attractive Package (which i like), but if you really want the truth, aside from all the laurels Mr. Charles deserves, the first two disks of this set are nothing short of terrific. So, if you like boxed sets, handsome ones at that, buy this. If you are in it just for the music, buy the first two disks separately. The other disks in this set are almost not worth listening to, especially the duets (which as a general category i detest).
Ah, what the hell, if you're a Ray Charles fan, buy the box set and use the other three disks for coasters!!!
Amazing!
2008-04-01 - I had some of this material when we still bought records. It is an absolutely great deal. Ray Charles is one of my favourite Country Singers. As far as I can see everything is here excepting the cut with Conway Twitty, from the friends album, 'Rainy Night in Georgia.' A pity, one of my favourites. I guess someone refused to sign. Go figure.
