Captains and the Kings Reviews:
A First rate Production
2009-10-26 - Having read the book when it was published, then about a year ago, I appreciated this film very much. I missed the original miniseries shown on TV.
This is one of the best, and my favorite Taylor Caldwell book. If you don't know much about the plight of the Irish immigrants in the 19th century, here is a good place to start. Yes, they author embellishes the story, but the real history is even more gory.
This is an allegory of the Kennedy family, and the curse that follows them. It is just as interesting after all these years as it was when I read the book. It is not for the impatient. Not only is it entertaining, but eye-opening as well. Books/films such as this lead to reading actual history for the curious. Highly recommended.
Watch this
2009-10-06 - Sex, Sin, Riches, Fames, bosoms heaving, etc.
All the things that make life worth living.
And yet, they are still unhappy.
Fun, fun, fun.
A walk down old tv mini series lane.
2009-08-30 - I remember this was one of the earliest tv miniseries, and enjoyed watching it when I was a kid. I loved Richard Jordan. I ordered this for sentimental reasons and I'm not sorry I did. It came in a beautiful container, 3 discs. However the series was not as good as I remembered - the acting was overly dramatic and the dialog was corny. I read the book and don't remember the dialog being that corny. Anyway, I'm still glad I bought it, but it wasn't as good as I remembered. Acting and story lines have really matured over the years.
Captain and the Kings DVD
2009-06-29 - While the mini-series did not follow the book exactly, it was still a well done mini-series. Richard Jordan gave a fantastic performance as Joseph Armagh.
Captains and the Kings
2009-06-14 - Very well written and acted. It is interesting to see some of the actors who moved on to greater works. I highly recommend this DVD.
