Editorial Review:
* These two great natives of Georgia defi ned the word "soul" and established an infectious blend of gospel, blues, and jazz as the dominant musical sound of a generation. * Here, they team up at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles for a soul-stirring live concert featuring all of the top-selling songs they popularized over the four decades they spent performing before audiences all over the world! * Gladys Knight received a Grammy for her gospel single "Heaven Help Us All." Along with Ray Charles, who rose from humble origins, she took the fervent and fiery spirit of gospel and inserted it into the secular lexicon to shatter musical and racial barriers. * Service to press, reviewers, and tastemakers.
Live at the Greek Theatre: Together Reviews:
Love Gladys and Ray
2009-08-25 - If you even LIKE these two entertainers, you'll LOVE this tape. Gladys is so young and pretty and Ray's voice is at it's best. A real fun tape.
Not the Best of Gladys and Ray
2009-06-02 - Although this dvd shows Gladys and the Pips in the beginning of their career, I think you should look for a more up to date dvd. By the time Ray started performing with them, it was time to go to sleep. I'd pass this one by.
gk@p
2009-04-18 - early years of gk&p not at their best.
ray charles is ray charles nothing more needs to be said
Great concert
2008-06-27 - This is an excellent show. Gladys performs with the PIPS and does her greats such as Midnight train, The way we were, Every beat of my heart etc. and is later joined by Ray Charles who entertains us with songs such as Hit the road Jack and does a superb duet with Gladys on Neither one of us. I highly recommend this show - keep in mind that it's vintage (80's)so don't expect 2008 sound quality/picture. Still, the sound and picture as is is not bad. More shows of this time should be released such as Diana Ross Live - Natalie Cole Live - Gladys Knight Live etc.
Please keep publishing those vintage concerts...
2007-12-24 - I think people tend to forget that the days of Digital recording, 5.1 surround sound and HDTV are pretty recent. How can a 1980 performance look like a million dollar... We all know the limitations of older recordings and that's what you have to keep in mind before buying vintage concerts. Personally I am attracted by the emotion you can feel watching such amazing and unbelievable musicianship. There are only too few of these remarkable DVDs available today. Please keep'em coming, I am all for it, because high end technology can't make up for the awful music being released today. Keep the 5.1-Blue Ray-schmaltz and give us the real deal. (of course if you got the real deal in high quality I won't mind either! LOL)
