Editorial Review:
Few artists have sung about marital infidelity as often as Reba McEntire, and she returns to the theme on her triumphant Read My Mind. No moment better illuminates what a marriage is really made of than the moment when a wife confronts a cheating husband, and McEntire returns to that showdown again and again. On "I Won't Stand in Line," McEntire addresses a husband who is quite nice to her when she's around but equally nice to lots of other women when she's not. On "I Wish That I Could Tell You," McEntire plays the wife in a lifeless marriage who wishes she could make it easy for her husband to go. "Till You Love Me" and the album's title track are both straightforward love songs with juicy melodies, and McEntire opens up her enormous, gospelish voice on them as if she were Nashville's Whitney Houston-- another big-throated singer with an instinct for the emotional jugular. -- Geoffrey Himes
Read My Mind Reviews:
Not Bad, But Not Great Either
2009-02-19 - All I have to say is this, "Every Thing That You Want" is horrible compared to the emotions that Tanya Tucker put into it on her album What Do I Do With Me.
Thank you
2009-02-09 - Thank you so much, your a wonderful Amazon seller hope to do business with you again....
PIECE OF EVERYONE'S HEART
2008-09-20 - Reba McEntire touches everyone's heart in one way or another and she proves it in this CD. Reba sings from the heart and her songs pull you in with each story line and her singing is amazing. So get your Kleenex out for this is a very heartfelt album. Enjoy!!
I've bought it three times!
2008-09-01 - I really have bought this 3 times. Everytime I saw it in a store, I thought "Oh, this sounds great." When I got it home I found I already had it. Reba's voice is awesome. I love her true country songs, but I also like her more pop music. Her voice is so versatile, and it suits all types of music. "His Name is John" ia poignant and perfect for this these times. The story she tells is a valuable lesson for all people who live a not-too-careful lifestyle. It provides a warning and tells the consequences. I won't go into detail about the other songs but every song on the album strikes a chord with me. They evoke feelings and emotions I have but don't express. This is my favorite of the dozen or so Reba albums I have.
Extremely overlooked & underrated even by "self-proclaimed" Reba McEntire fans
2007-10-12 - Besides "I Won't Stand In Line" & "Why Haven't I Heard From You" which nowadays I finding incrediblely noisy, besides "For My Broken Heart" this is probarly Reba McEntire's second best album of the 1990s. The songs go great with each other, giving the album a slow and haunting tone. By reading past reviews on Amazon years ago, I still find people disliking the album, do to its more pop sound, than pure country, which Reba did through the whole decade of the 1980s. People find that listening to the album, Reba McEntire sold out to pop and forgot her roots. To take up for Reba, I must say that it's not true, by this time in Reba's career she was exploring new sounds to keep up with the time. To make a long story short, this album still does have a country sound to it and includes some of Reba's most known songs like the haunting "She Thinks His Name Was John", "And Still", "The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter" and my personal favorite "Till You Love Me". If you do have taste and consider yourself a "true" Reba McEntire fan, than you'll definitely love "Read My Mind".
Other underrated albums from Reba, that you should give more listens to are: "Rumor Has It", "It's Your Call" and "What If It's You".
