Editorial Review:
Reba specializes in encouraging ordinary women to face their trials with courage, perseverance, and hope. Consisting mostly of 1990s hits, Volume III deviates from this mission just twice: "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia," which is either a slice of Southern gothic or pure kitsch, take your pick; and "She Thinks His Name Is John," a morality tale that mistakes pity for empathy. More typically, Reba shouts, "You go girl!" "Fallin' Out of Love," for example, is about a woman who tells her cheating ex to take a hike when he comes crawling back. "I'm a Survivor" (her sitcom theme and one of the disc's three new recordings) somehow finds common cause between the struggles of a single mom and a preemie. If only there were some real-life scale to it all. Instead, Reba the Diva transforms each song into a grandiose anthem, where even the quietest beginnings end with her revving up for one more key change. --David Cantwell
Reba McEntire - Greatest Hits Volume III: I'm A Survivor Reviews:
A Great Country Album
2009-06-04 - This is a truly great album. Every aspect of it is positive. First of all, Reba has a beautiful and powerful voice. Second of all, all of theses songs are different and are all full of emotion
I'm a Survivor-a ballad about how she's overcame obstacles because she is a survivor. 4/5
Forever Love-a moving love ballad about how you will be with someone no matter what, beautiful vocal performance 5/5
The Heart is a Lonely Hunter-great, a well written story about a woman who wants love and is willing to do anything for it, great chorus and good lyrics 5/5
And Still-a sad ballad about meeting an old lover and still loving them. It is sad because her ex-lover turns out to be married. 4/5
If You See Him/If You See Her-a duet with Brooks and Dunn, very touching and heart-gripping 4.5/5
The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia-a mysterious song, tells a story about someone who is hung for a murder he didn't commit, catchy and one of the best 5/5
Fallin Out of Love-a sad ballad about having to let someone go because you don't love them 4/5
The Heart Won't Lie-a beautiful duet with Vince Gill, one of the best country duets 4.5/5
Take it Back-a sassy, jazz-influenced number about telling a cheating lover to take their love back, fun and upbeat 5/5
She Thinks His Name Was John-a very sad song about a woman who is dying from AIDS after she got it from a guy during a one-night stand. If teens listen to his, they will probably consider abstinence until marriage 4/5
The Fear of Being Alone-a good song about not rushing into loving someone just because you are alone and heartbroken 4.5/5
Why Haven't I Heard From You-like Take It Back, it is sassy and jazz influenced. It is about a woman asking why she hasn't heard from her man, even though he is perfectly able of communicatinng 4/5
One Honest Heart-a mid-tempo song about a womanho is looking for someone who will sty true to her and who has an honest heart 4/5
Myslef Without You-an empowering ballad about learning to love yoourself without your lover 4/5
Sweet Music Man-a good song and a cover from Kenny Rogers, I think. 4/5
Love Reba
2009-05-07 - This was shipped fast and in great shape. I got a great deal on it also. Want all the reba I can get without breaking the bank.
Real Reba
2007-07-18 - I see a number of 1 star reviews for Reba's Greatest Hits Vol. III and most all those people seem to have as their gripe that this album isn't "country" enough, like Reba is some kind of a traitor to her "true" music. Well, I think it's up to the artist to decide what music he or she makes, and if Reba decides to alter things a bit, so what? In any event, it's not like this is some kind of radical deviation into a genre completely different from her 80s stuff. This is REba's stuff from the 90s and is still most definitely recognizable as country. Reba's voice is powerful as ever. The songs here center on Reba's vocals and storytelling. The best tunes:
Heart is a Lonely Hunter
Night the Lights Went out in Georgia
Take it Back
Why Haven't I Heard from You
One Honest Heart
I haven't gotten it yet, just read the reviews.
2007-02-01 - I thought that this was a place to write reviews. Not snipe at other reviewers. If you don't like the album just say so. If you don't like the review, then don't read reviews by that reviewer. You don't have to say that they're malfunctioning or that they are children. No one has the exact same tastes in music. It's important to get both sides.
"YOUNG" IS JUST AN ALTERNATIVE WAY OF SAYING "STUPID."
2006-09-19 - My feeling is that most of these....er....uh...."reviews" were written by children MUCH too young to know the superior talent and overall excellence of Empress Reba. I also feel that those same children are better suited to "reviewing" Rap and/or Hip Hop.....as those two genres are NOT music, and these children are NOT adult enough to offer a viable opinion!
Praise be to Empress Reba!
