The last mission...
2009-12-20 - If you were on a B-52 and found out your mission wasn't training but the real deal, also the mission wasn't what you thought it was, could you carry it through. Nail biter!
Excellent!
2009-12-14 - I was pleasantly surprised by the execution of the plot, and perfectly cast actors. Especially the Powers Booth and Rebecca De Mornay interaction in the cockpit of the B-52.
Fits in well with the other Soviet era doomsday thrillers (e.g. Failsafe, On The Beach).
Buy used and you will not be disappointed.
Good but flawed
2009-11-21 - People who were a part of the Cold War saw holes big enough to drive a B-52 through.
A good yarn but a technically flawed. The writers were too busy dumping on the military-industrial complex and trigger-happy politicians to actually get it right.
There was enough of a good story here to keep me from flushing it but there were big problems with facts like the Continuity of Goverenment(COG) Plan and SIOP (Single Integrated Operational Plan).
Writers do your research! SOme of us were there and know when you are spinning Bravo Sierra.
Outstanding!!
2009-09-18 - I'm SO GLAD this movie was finally made available on DVD. An all-star cast, great story, great suspense, and long overdue in DVD form. Excellent "lost treasure" from HBO. Love this movie!!
COLD WAR HEATS UP
2009-09-11 - If you grew up during the "Cold War" period with the USSR, this movie is a great reminder of the feeling one carried back then that something just around the corner could go wrong. I think the actors convey those feelings, especially the air crew on the B-52 that gets its orders to take the "grand tour." Just a great film, and as an added bonus, seeing Darren McGavin as the Secretary of the Interior going full-out Alexander Haig ("I'm in charge now" when Prez Reagan was shot in 1981, remember?) is really great.
