Editorial Review:
Reissue of the second single from the Peppers' 1995 album 'One Hot Minute'. It's backed with 'Coffee Shop' and the non-album B-sides 'Let's Make Evil' & 'Stretch'. Slimline jewel case. 1995 release.
My Friends Reviews:
The A-sides are great, but they're on the album.....
2005-09-28 - "My Friends" was the second (and by far most successful) single off of "One Hot Minute". The track listings on Amazon are sometimes incorrect. Correctly, this single includes two tracks from "One Hot Minute"-- "My Friends" and "Coffee Shop" and two b-sides, "Let's Make Evil" and "Stretch".
The album tracks are among the best examples of the Dave Navarro-era Chili Peppers-- combining his layered guitars and sense of melodrama of Jane's Addiction with the energy and musicianship the Chili Peppers bring to the table, both pieces stand out well-- the title track for the single is a moody ballad with a great, wistful vocal, a superb guitar-theme, and a fantastic bridge. "Coffee Shop" is an explosive, punky piece with some absolutely jaw dropping bass playing from Flea.
The b-sides are, well, they feel like b-sides quite frankly-- "Let's Make Evil" is funky, aggressive and pretty goofy, "Stretch" is a bit more laid back, seeking a low key groove, but it doesn't really work with a guitarist like Navarro. In the end, they're really not worth pursuing unless you're a completionist.
Heartfelt emotion
2000-08-08 - This CD has a good mix of the true friendship between the 4 members of the band, there is a-lot of heartfelt emotion to this song as we are always accustomed to hearing from the Red Hot Chili Peppers and grown to love very much I might add. This CD really makes you stop and think about what is going on in your life and just how much you value your true friends and the true meaning behind friendship.
the best of the minute singles!
2000-01-16 - my friends was the follow up ballad to the already huge hits under the bridge and soul to squeeze! my friends wasn't the best ballad on the album(tearjerker is)but it is good! this is the best cd single they put out for one hot minute! the two b'sides are really good and i recomend that you get this just for them! let's make evil has a hard edge to it! stretch is one of the best songs they did with dave and if you read interviews from that time they were going to include it as stretch you out! it's the funkiest thing they did with dave and reminds me of bssm more that ohm! great buy this single is! i have all their cd singles and this is the best out of all 5 singles from the album! (yes i said 5! -they had warped/my friends/coffee shop-the video for coffee shop got played little and the european single for shallow be thy game-coffee/shallow are very hard to find now and both have the same cd cover, the peppers with watermelons and only have the title track and live 1-2 live tracks-the coffee shop cd is better cause they have a 6+minute live version of the song wich rocks! the best version live i've heard! shallow on has suck my kiss live! )
