  • Spartacus [Region 2] Reviews:
Truly a great cinematic feat!! 5 Star Review
2009-09-02 - I don't know why people bother to comment on this if they don't leave good feedback. This is truly a cinematic great! This is Sparticus as it really happened; not in a Hollywood set. For the first time we know who Verina is and how she and Sparticus came to be. Their love is truly one on great tragety(however the hell you spell that). This deserves far more credit that these small minded people give it. One more thing, Marcus Lycenius Crassus didn't make it through the battle with Sparticus.

2009-01-11 - I had been looking for this item for quite some time. Thank you for providing me with merchandise that is in very good condition and at a reasonable price.

Spartacus Miniseries--Terrible Remake of A Classic 2 Star Review
2008-11-23 - I was really hoping that this Miniseries--Spartacus--a tv remake of a great film classic--"Spartacus" which is one of my favorite films, starring Kirk Douglas & Jean Simmons would try to do it justice with this new version. Don't waste your time--this film is totally "CRAP" compared to the origional. With this being said--usually most origionals are the best anyway period. Again I repeat, this miniseries remake is "CRAP"

"What's important isn't our living or our dying but this new thing we've reached, however briefly. A world without slaves..." 4 Star Review
2008-08-07 - The TV miniseries opens in Gaul 72 B.C. where the Romans put an end to Varinia's world making her a slave... Meanwhile Spartacus (Goran Visnjic) is free from the hell of the gold mines of Egypt to be trained as gladiator in the establishment of Lentulus Batiatus (Ian McNeice).

Most of "Spartacus" contains many of the miniseries' best moments... The operation of the gladiatorial school and its training program is impressive and expressive; the apprentice gladiators are treated like special animals, tutored to perform in the arena as spectator-sport-killers, and occasionally rewarded with a woman in their cells...

In this degrading manner Spartacus meets Varinia (Rhona Mitra) and it is his love for her and his hatred for his captors that brings about his decision to escape and lead revolt...

Particularly effective is the scene in which Marcus Crassus (Angus Macfadyen) and his bored entourage visit the establishment and request for a private showing at its best of a pair of Thracians... Crassus wanted to see courage, passion, and above all finality...

Spartacus is matched with the African Draba in a fight to the death, but Draba (maybe rather than live as a beast) chooses to die as a man, attacking his spectators...

The scene summarizes the iniquity of the situation, the cruelty of bondage, and the subsequent uprising of gladiators in Capua becomes a triumph easy to understand...

Director Robert Donrhelm did a decent job, carrying the grandeur and the decay of ancient Rome...

Spartacus mini series 5 Star Review
2008-08-03 - As stated in previous reviews the history is a bit off.

But besides that i enjoyed watching the show. I thought the acting was pretty good, the picture & setup of the movie is excellent.

Do not expect this to be The Gladiator :) But if you like the B.C times, you shall enjoy the show.

    Thanks.
