Editorial Review:
In an attempt to appease Ricky's Spanish-speaking fans and resuscitate his ailing crossover career, the folks at Sony have unleashed La Historia a mere three months after releasing the underperforming Sound Loaded, which has failed to generate any Loca-sized pop hits. The 17-track Historia compiles the biggest Spanish-language hits off Martin's six albums, and--not surprisingly--it's his best effort since 1998's Vuelve. Martin tends to comes off like an overzealous Broadway extra on his English-language albums, but he infuses his Spanish tracks with nuance and passion. "La Copa de la Vida" (the superior original version of "The Cup of Life") crackles with electricity, and "Por Arriba, por Abajo" revels in acoustic energy. Martin also excels at ballads, most notably the pensive "Vuelve" and the exquisite "Perdido sin Ti," his finest recording to date. La Historia also includes rerecorded versions of early hits "Fuego Contra Fuego" and "El Amor de Mi Vida," along with the current hit "Sólo Quiero Amarte." There's no telling how long Martin will make English-language fans shake their bon-bon, but his Spanish catalog promises a long and bright future. --Joey Guerra
La Historia Reviews:
LA HISTORIA
2006-03-21 - Ricky's La Historia is wonderful he can sing to me in Spanish any time and English . I listen to them all the time.
biografia musical
Well...
2003-08-06 - His voice is beautiful (as is his body) and this CD is no different. WHile some of the tracks don't seem to mesh well together, as a greatist hits album its wonderful.
shake your bon bon
2003-06-29 - great cd to shake to and to drive to. This man is so cute and has such a great sound. It's hard not to like him. Que percioso!
Flashback of a Success
2003-01-21 - Do I speak Spanish? I barely can work it...
Does that stop me from buying a cd in a language i do not master? NO!
Everyone who likes Ricky Martin when he sings in English should buy this, because when he sings in Spanish he's just as good.
Of course you do notice differences...
Aside from the Spanish versions of some of his worlwide hits (MARIA, LA COPA DE LA VIDA, LIVIN' LA VIDA LOCA, BELLA and SHE BANGS), most of the tracks appearing here are ballads.
And Ricky unveils such a talented attitude towards the balladeer role when he says it with Spanish words, you will be gladly surprised.
VUELVE is powerful...PERDIDO SIN TI and FUEGO DE NOCHE, NIEVE DE DIA are emotionals.
But Ricky loves to shake that cute butt, and loves his audience to do it as well, so there you go with the salsa explosion of LA BOMBA and POR ARRIBA, POR ABAJO, while BOMBON DE AZUCAR is a radio-friendly pop song.
Music is the international language, breaks down any barrier...do your part and break down a bit more of that barrier.
Buy this and enjoy the flow!
