  • Editorial Review:
Between heroic spells as the Saint and James Bond, Roger Moore was teamed with Tony Curtis in The Persuaders, a derivative but fun series about a couple of millionaire dilettante adventurers who swan around the world competing for the attention of beautiful women and getting involved in perplexing mysteries. Moore is Lord Brett Sinclair, an upper crust Brit of impeccable breeding, while Curtis is Danny Wilde, an up-from-the-streets self-made man whose trademark is a pair of brown gloves. The allegedly tasteful Brett and the crasser Danny both model a succession of garish early-'70s fashions while their pursuits of duplicitous women usually wind up with the women getting away and the heroes stuck with each other. Set 1 includes the first 13 episodes, running about 52 minutes each. --Kim Newman

    The Persuaders!, Set 1 Reviews:
Visit the naïve 70's 4 Star Review
2009-04-04 - It's been around 35 years since I have seen the Persuaders on TV. There are many things I remember about it, but what I remember most was the main Persuaders theme. Actually, I ordered the DVD set to listen to that music again. Very touching. Interestingly, it is a very sad music, which is not correlated to the ambiance of the series, which is quiet comic and entertaining.
Persuaders is fun. IMHO it is about Tony Curtis. They could put somebody else in place of Roger Moore and it could turn out okey, but changing Tony Curtis would make a huge difference.
Another thing that has caught my attention is the state of the world at the beginning of the 70's. The world looks so innocent, naïve, clean, and unpopulated. SO different from the world we are living in today. As Louis De Bernieres has said in "Birds Without Wings", MANY THINGS HAVE CHANGED, AND NOT ALL FOR THE GOOD. That is very easy to observe through "The Persuaders!"
All in all, The Persuaders is good. Very enjoyable.

    Classic TV 5 Star Review
2008-08-17 - Once more finding a great classic TV show has proven to ben fruitful. The Persuaders has held my attention once again. When it first came out I saw the show while stationed in Germany and found it to be a mix of laughter and thrilling. Yes it has some poor sections to it, like where you can tell that the fights are a staged and not really heavy hitting at that. Even with this in mind the cast of characters and the twists that were tossed in made for a show that should have run a bit longer than it did. Only two seasons that is known of.

Would be great if the audio weren't completely out of sync!!!!!!! 1 Star Review
2008-01-09 - Loved the series as a kid. Was very disappointed that all the audio is way out of sync on the DVDs. Don't A & E have any quality control? They must have slept through this one. very amatuerish. Boo! Rubish! You're all fired! To add insult, it's a box set that isn't even a whole series, for the money they charge for it.what a bunch of cheese bags. I'm going to complain to A & E.

The Persuader box set 1 5 Star Review
2007-11-24 - I loved this when I was a kid back in the UK, still love it now as an adult living in the USA.

Two nice new Audio commentaries 4 Star Review
2006-01-11 - There are actually TWO funny and interesting audio commentaries in this Set 1 with Roger Moore, Robert Baker and Johnny Goodman: Episodes OVERTURE and THE TIME AND THE PLACE. Photo Gallery (no behind the scenes) and some new pictures of Roger signing the restored Aston Martin DBS. Four seperate Amaray-style cases in box. Check out the french edition (AMICALEMENT VOTRE) for a lot more interesting extras. Sadly the English/American people will never know anything about the enormously popular German dub that added wit, double meanings and ironic fun. The two send up each other a lot more... In all, 24 episodes were filmed (not 26), 13 are in this set. Codefree Discs, not code 1.
