Editorial Review:
For the first time ever, Rolling Stone has collected the best paintings, caricatures, and drawings ever to grace their pages. Award-winning art director Fred Woodward has created a mesmerizing compendium that serves as a who's who of the illustration world, matching the talents of Ralph Steadman, Milton Glaser, and Philip Burke with famous faces like those of Patty Hearst, Bob Dylan, and Kurt Cobain. Snippets of interviews with both the subjects and the artists illuminate the subjective and interpretive process of illustration. ("I've tried to control my image, but my flesh keeps failing to cooperate," says Pete Townshend.) Featuring over 100 boldly colored illustrations, Rolling Stone: The Illustrated Portraits not only captures the gamut of personalities and figures who have shaped the last quarter of the century but does so with the originality and style that is quintessentially Rolling Stone.

Rolling Stone: The Illustrated Portraits Reviews:
The Robert Risko and Philip Burke Nineties show 3 Star Review
2000-12-29 - I don't know if Rolling Stone didn't use any art in their early days, or if the editors of this book just figured that they had to concentrate on appealing to their contemporary audience. Anyway, these very entertaining caricatures are mostly from the late Eighties through the Nineties. Risko and Burke account for a large percentage of the total. Risko especially is good, practically the second coming of Miguel Covarrubias. There's too much Madonna and not enough Sixties, but overall this is a fine compilation.

a great overview 5 Star Review
2000-11-19 - this is a great collection of pictures.before Rolling Stone sold out this was a very important magazine.many great Artists are featured here.i like to remember what made the Magazine great in the first place&this is one of them.

Perfect Coffee Table Book 5 Star Review
2000-09-28 - This book has everyone from Elvis to Marilyn Manson included. The illustrations in this book are phenomenal. It is a pretty large book, all pictures for all ages. It is the perfect gift book to anyone who has lived in the 70's, 80's or 90's. I have a copy sitting on my coffee table and everyone who comes over picks it up and cannot put it down until they have seen every picture. :-)
