Selections from Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time: Early Rock to the Late '60s (Easy Guitar TAB) Reviews:
OK
2009-11-22 - A great book. But I was fooled by the title "500 greatest songs...". I didn't read the description of tehe product good enough.
Cool guitar transcriptions of songs from "when music mattered"
2008-08-14 - This is a great book. It has classics by rock legends from Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Bob Dylan, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and The Who mixed in with the most influential works of other stars from Sam Cooke to Sly & the Family Stone, Joni Mitchell to Jimi Hendrix, and Johnny Cash to Cream. There's no fluff here. Every song is a bona fide classic.
In addition to the awesome song selection, the arrangements are spot on. The book is labeled "easy" but what it has are essential parts from the original recordings distilled down to one- or two-guitar arrangements (with TAB). The trademark intros and solos are all there. I find they really sound like the record without being too challenging for an intermediate player like myself.
It's obvious that special care was taken to transcribe the songs in the original record keys (even altered tunings such as used on "Honky Tonk Women" and "Both Sides Now" are explained).
This book has come in handy for both jam sessions with friends and playing along with the records.
The book's only downside is I wish it had more songs. I'm looking forward to getting volume 2!
