Editorial Review:
A fresh, uncompromising attempt to incorporate 1978 pop techniques into the band's familiar sound, Some Girls opens with the disco sass of "Miss You" and closes with the self-destructive punk of "Shattered." (Both songs, especially "Miss You," with its distinctive Mel Collins sax solo, remain live showstoppers.) So the Stones declared credibility in the dance circuit without sacrificing their hard-rock reputation. Though the anti-love "Beast of Burden" and the stylishly slow "Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me)" continue to rack up the most airplay, the obscurities stand up surprisingly well. Worth replaying: Keith Richards's rickety rocker "Before They Make Me Run." --Steve Knopper

Description of Some Girls:
Few rock stars have played in the intersection of real life, image, and fans' imaginations as smartly (and comically) as Mick Jagger does on Some Girls. With the Stones again running at top pace, Jagger aims his gimlet eye at his and the boys' gossip-column lives (the Chuck Berryish "Respectable," the archly blues-wailing title track), his collapsing marriage (where was Bianca when Mick's pals were trying to hook him up with the "Puerto Rican girls who're just dyin' to meetchoo?) and the mores and modes of New York society in the Studio 54 era (practically everything here). Slot in Keith's lament "Before They Make Me Run," and this is one of the greatest Stones albums. --Rickey Wright

Some Girls Reviews:
Still Sounds like the Stones 5 Star Review
2009-09-22 - Can't believe they are still playing at age 70! Oh Well, the ol' boys are sounding pretty good on this CD. If you like the stones this has a lot of top songs on it. Although I never knew it before but "when the whip comes down" has to do with being gay or a fag. Check the words out for youself. Not sure what to think of that one! Was mick gay? Or maybe ron wood? I think Mick and David Bowie got it on one time back in the 70's.(gossip mag)

FAR AWAY EYES 5 Star Review

Some Girls CD 4 Star Review
2009-04-10 - I received this order in very good condition and time.

The sound is quite original and I'm tempted to play it every now and then. Many thanks to my seller.

an incredible album 5 Star Review
2009-03-29 - Some Girls is easily one of the best albums ever released by The Rolling Stones. I love the music; they truly demonstrate that they could do a variety of songs and make every one of them sound great! The Stones did indeed have very productive sessions when recording this material; and this shows in the songs we get. The quality of the sound is excellent; and the artwork on that cover is excellent.

The CD starts with the memorable hit "Miss You." Mick Jagger sings this so darn well I'm convinced nobody could have sung it better than he did. That disco influenced style of rock music goes just right with his singing and it makes "Miss You" a very strong opening tune for this album! Jagger and the band do this one up right as they bat it straight out of the ballpark; and that percussion marks the best really well. "When the Whip Comes Down" has a distinctly rock flavor to it; this rocks hard and The Rolling Stones deliver this with gusto--to say the least! The music again fits in quite well with the lyrics and that's awesome.

"Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)" is a shining example of just how well The Stones could cover a song; they sing this one with heart and soul and they never let go of a superfluous note! Mick Jagger in particular has the perfect voice for this tune; and the guitar work enhances the ballad even more. "Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)" is a fine example of a rock band covering a tune that certainly wasn't rock when I last heard it done by The Temptations!

"Some Girls," is, of course, the title track and it features an excellent arrangement for guitar. The song explores how both women as well as their men buy or give each other things and even children to show their affection (well, mostly to show their affection); these lyrics provide an interesting twist on the way men have traditionally given things to women but it certainly works. The lyrics are awesome when you hear them. In addition, "Far Away Eyes" has a fine country flavor; when The Stones perform this they totally amaze me with their incredible sense of timing and their flawless delivery. "Far Away Eyes" is one of my favorite songs on this album.

"Respectable" does indeed feature some outstanding bluesy "wailing" just as Amazon says that it does; but the element of rock is unmistakable and believe it or not the combination of that bluesy wailing and the hard rock element hold together very well. "Beast Of Burden" is one of their best hits ever; "Beast Of Burden" has a fine arrangement and Mick Jagger sings this without a hitch. The melody is actually even pretty when you hear it and the backup vocals aren't too shabby, either. The album ends strong with The Rolling Stones performing the punk rock sounding "Shattered" which was a huge hit for them; it remains one of their best songs to this day.

Overall, Some Girls by The Rolling Stones gives us a lot to enjoy. The music is outstanding and this is nothing short of a brilliant work of art. I highly recommend this for fans of bands similar to The Stones; I simply assume that fans of The Stones already have this in their collections. In addition, this CD is not a bad place to start if you're just getting to know the artistry of The Rolling Stones.
