Editorial Review:
Universal Pictures Eagle Eye (Blu-Ray)Jerry Shaw and Rachel Holloman are two strangers thrown together by a mysterious phone call from a woman they have never met. Threatening their lives and family, she pushes Jerry and Rachel into a series of increasingly dangerous situations--using the technology of everyday life to track and control their every move. As the situation escalates, these two ordinary people become the country's most wanted fugitives, who must work together to discover what is really happening--and more importantly, why.
Description of Eagle Eye [Blu-ray]:
The "cell phone thriller" is becoming a genre unto itself, and Eagle Eye should be considered a key example of the form. Frankly preposterous but compulsively watchable, this movie puts Shia LaBeouf in a mess of trouble instigated by a mysterious telephone voice. If he doesn't follow orders, dire things will happen--although when he does follow orders, the consequences are pretty dire, anyway. Also being blackmailed is a single mom (Michelle Monaghan) receiving similar phone calls. Why are they being jerked around by the purring female voice, and why is the road leading to Washington, D.C.? Actually, you won't have time to contemplate these questions, because director D.J. Caruso (who guided LaBeouf in Disturbia) keeps the action going at the customary breakneck pace. This is a wise move, because the real questions you'd likely be asking have to do with the plausibility of events on a minute-by-minute basis (most notably: how could Mysterious Phone Voice possibly know that the two pigeons would survive the hoops she makes them fly through, each one more death-defying than the last?). The actors tumble through this mayhem like scattering bowling pins, including Billy Bob Thornton and Rosario Dawson as government agents. Nobody has time to make much of an impression, and LaBeouf has much less room for puppydog charm than he did in Disturbia. Even that would be all right within the movie's berserk parameters, but the really irritating thing is the way the tacked-on final scenes reverse what would have been a heroic climax. No guts, no glory. --Robert Horton

Eagle Eye [Blu-ray] Reviews:
Pretty Good...Not Real Original But I Liked the Characters
2009-10-24 - Nicely paced thriller with a what-if scenario which was not the freshest but still entertaining. The characters were nicely fleshed out through believable motivation and the skill of the actors. As far as family friendly viewing, it was pretty mild without overt gore, excessive raw language or lewdness. The suspense might be too much for some, but overall this was a pretty good flick.
HAL has a cousin and she's mean
2009-10-14 - Jerry is a loser. Rachel is a single mother. They both get phone calls ordering them to do stuff or Rachel's child is going to die. The lady on the phone has other terrified slaves, a music shop owner, a jewler, a TSA worker, a Chinese tour bus group and an FBI agent. All these people are cogs in a wild plan to fix a political problem. If you saw 2001, watched the Daystrom episode of Star Trek or watched the Terminator then you probably sighed when the big denouncement came up. Parts of the movie are okay and parts are ridiculous. Jerry has to run like a sprinter champion, jump like a diver, pull a gun on professionals and fight a guy who should've been able to break him like a twig. The body count in this movie is so high that there must be hundreds of folks dead or injured in Jerry and Rachel's wake.
Eagle Eye is one of those flicks that is best for sitting on the couch eating popcorn and talking back to the screen. Unless you want to own every movie that Billy Bob Thornton has appeared in or if you really, really like looking at Shia then don't bother to buy this.
Eagle Eye-Great Movie
2009-10-01 - I love thsi movie and was very happy when I found it so much cheaper on Amazon. I have bought used movies in the past and this one didn't fail to meet my expectations. The movie is like I just bought it from the store but paid less than half the cost!!! great deal from an honest seller
FACED PACED SCI FI THRILLER! 4 1/2 STARS!
2009-09-30 - I know, I know! This film is implausible, it could have had a better actor (Shia LaBeouf) in the lead, but growing up loving the sci-fi genre of yesteryear, I had to think about my rating on those terms. In the old days of sci-fi films(50's, 60's and 70's) we didn't always get the best actors or special FX and the plots were certainly a bit of a stretch to say the least. So if you compare this film to some of those old lovable and laughable classics; this film is really quite interesting and very well done. Sure there are many moments where everything works out too conveniently, but it's a sci-fi fantasy and I can forgive that because it's a well executed story with an intriguing plot.
I really liked this film and I think those of you who go into this film with the right frame of mind will truly enjoy it despite its minor shortcomings. Of course this film is considered sci-fi now, but who knows if it's not reality in a few years!
It just keeps coming at you ... very intense
2009-09-27 - A very strong action/adventure movie with a huge suspense element. This movie starts fast and keeps going. Its a movie where you have no real idea of whats going on until the end. It just keeps building and building. And why the heck are these two key characters forced to work together? Watch and find out. This is really a good and exciting movie and one I will want to watch again and again.
