Actor Griffin Dunne improves a bit on his first film as a director, Addicted to Love, with this drama-comedy about a family of witches. Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock play spell-casting sisters of different temperaments: the former is a high-living, free-spirited sort, while Bullock's character is a homebody who can't get around a family curse that kills the men in their lives. A widowed single mom, Bullock gets into a jam with an abusive Bulgarian (Goran Visnjic) and is helped out by her sibling, but the result brings a good-looking, warm, inquisitive cop (Aidan Quinn) into their lives. The film has a variety of tonal changes--cute, scary, glum--that Dunne can't always effectively juggle. But the female-centric, celebratory nature of the film (the fantasies, the sharing, the witchy bonds) is infectious, and supporting roles by Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing as Kidman and Bullock's magical aunts are a lot of fun. --Tom Keogh

2009-12-18 - This movie was very entertaining. I think that Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman did great together. A bewitching movie. This movie has everything from supernatural to horror.

A wonderful, whimsical, and enchanting flick for the witch in all of us.
2009-12-16 - Not your typical chick flick but a very good chick flick nonetheless. My second favorite movie of all time. Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock are wonderful as actresses in this movie. Stockard Channing also makes a wonderful cast member as do the other supporting actors and actresses. The movie begins with their great-great-grandmother being tried for witchcraft and escaping the gallows only to be banished to an island where her lover never came to her, while she was pregnant. In a moment of dispair, she cast a spell on herself that she would never feel the pain of love again. It grew into a curse on any man who dared love an Owens woman. Sally (Bullock) wants nothing more than to be normal. Gillian (Kidman) can't wait to fall in love. When she grows up, Gillian falls for the "Dracula-cowboy" named Jimmy Angelove. The two accidentally kill Angelove and try to bring him back, only to have him posses Gillian. I won't ruin the ending. If you haven't seen this movie, or even if it is an old favorite, like it is for me, I highly recommend this movie to anyone who is interested in the occult or has a little bit of witchiness to them. 2009-10-15 - I searched and found this wonderful movie on DVD. This is a story of life, love lost and in the possibilities that life and a touch of magic,could bring a new future. The DVD arrived in excellent condition, although I don't like the type of case it came in, but that does not take away from the wonderful and wistful feeling that the movie leaves inside me after I watch it.

Great Movie. It took 3 1/2 weeks to get here but it did get here so thats what counts.
2009-09-24 - Love this movie. It's one of my favorites. It was accurately described and when I sent an email asking where it was they emailed me back quickly. However it took 3 1/2 weeks to get here which is a really long time. But..... it did finally get here.

2009-09-17 - THIS MOVIE IS MOSTLY FOR WOMEN, BUT IT IS A FUN AND ENCHANTING STORY AND THE SCENERY AND PLACE WHERE THIS MOVIE WAS FILMED REALLY IS BEAUTIFUL...... A VERY QUAINT TOWN FILMED ON FRIDAY HARBOR IN MAIN. YOU WANT TO GET UP AND MOVE THERE! THE HOUSE IS BREATHTAKING.....I FOUND IT THE KIND OF MOVIE THAT I COULD WATCH OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN....IT WAS FUN AND HAD A BIT OF EVERYTHING IN IT....NOT TO MENTION TWO BEAUTIFUL ACTRESSES, BULLOCK AND KIDMAN...STOCKARD CHANNING AND PIPER LAURIE ARE PERFECT AS THE AUNTS. IT IS THE BEST MOVIE ABOUT WITCHES I HAVE EVER SEEN....I DON'T BELIEVE IN DABBLING IN WITCHCRAFT BEING A CHRISTIAN, YET I FOUND MYSELF SPELLBOUND AND CAPTIVATED...LOVED THE MUSIC, TOO.....GOOD MOVIE TO WATCH WITH THE GIRLS!!!

I CAN'T BELIEVE THE PEOPLE ON THIS SITE WHO ARE DISSING THIS MOVIE...THEY MUST HAVE NO REAL SENSE OF FANTASY!

ONE BIG QUESTION??? WHY HASN'T THIS FILM COME OUT ON BLUE RAY????
