Editorial Review:
Opposites don't just attract - they hilariously banter fuss feud and collide when SANDRA BULLOCK plays an activist lawyer and HUGH GRANT is the eccentric tycoon who hires her in this romantic-comedy romp from the writer of Miss CongenialityRunning Time: 102 min.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: COMEDY UPC: 085392341825 Manufacturer No: 23418
Description of Two Weeks Notice (Widescreen Edition):
You'd expect a cavalcade of cuteness from any pairing of Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant, but Two Weeks Notice admirably avoids the obvious. You get plenty of Bullock's pratfalls and feisty sex appeal, and Grant's snappy comebacks are never in short supply, but first-time writer-director Marc Lawrence (who wrote Bullock's previous hit, Miss Congeniality) adds just enough antagonism to keep this romantic comedy from being a completely foregone conclusion. Neurotic lawyer, environmentalist, and landmark-preservation activist Lucy Kelson (Bullock) is determined to thwart the efforts of billionaire developer and jet-setting playboy George Wade (Grant); of course, fate brings them together and then rips them apart, just as they're beginning to feel the panicky pangs of love. A replacement attorney (Alicia Witt) defies formula by being genuinely sweet, and Lawrence steers clear of the most familiar clichés. It's formulaic anyway, but in Two Weeks Notice it's a comforting formula, delivered by stars who thrive within their limitations. --Jeff Shannon
Two Weeks Notice (Widescreen Edition) Reviews:
Two Week Notice-Opposites collide
2008-06-26 - Hugh Grant and Sandra Bullock are great together. Hugh plays a rich guy who considers only the important things, like which tie to wear. Sandra plays an activist who cares about the important things like saving the community center. Thrust together by Hugh's need for a lawyer, and Sandra's being one, her superior talent and ability dovetail perfectly with his need for someone stable and organized. Working together, they find each other indispensible, except for the fact that Hugh is utterly unconcerned with reality, and drives her insane. She gives him 2 weeks notice and helps him 'find' a replacement (who turns out to be young, sexy, intelligent, and attractive) which makes Sandra jealous in her competitive nature. They finally admit that they love each other and there is no one else for them besides each other. Classic lines include during the private flight in his $2 million helicopter around New York: she says: "This is what dreams and alot of money can accomplish. You can use your life for good..." to which he responds "If only I would.."
and
'Like a twisty bobcat pretzel.." ;-)
A classic must-own movie. Both stars are stellar, and a great ending.

Pretty Good
2008-04-13 - Light and fun, airy and pleasant. Would be a good date movie, but I watched it alone and enjoyed it. Didn't think I would when I pulled it out of the bargain bin, but both actors work pretty well off each other and there was surely a chemistry between them (a good hybrid between friendliness and romance). You'll chuckle some. I'm embarrassed to say it, but this is a well enough made movie and entertaining in an easy way.
On notice - You will be entertained
2008-04-12 - I bought this Film for the Sandra Bullock appeal.Any other addition is a plus. The relationship with Hugh Grant works because of Sandra's Charisma. It helps that the supporting actors are top notch. And The work with the
Director/writer in Ms Congeniality is spoken of in negative terms here in reviews, well, I loved Ms Congeniality, so that connection was and is a plus for me. I enjoyed the film from start to finish, and the commentary shows where Hugh did some "ad lib" work, and it is quite fun.The bottom line here is that if you like Sandra, then you will like thye film, if not then any excuse to bag the film will do. So, Pick a film you like and review that one.
The DVD is quite good, the Bonus elements provide great extra materials that add to the film and has a special extra that when accessed shows some behind the scenes extras( And the best ones come on an alternate path where a Heart shows up, and it shows "bloopers" and a bunch of fun material that adds to the enjoyment of the film after several views...but, I could re-view without this feature anyway :-). Anyways, as a variation on one of my favorite saying "Any Sandra is Good Sandra"...
ENJOY
`Two Weeks' takes two great actors and creates one great movie...
2008-04-08 - Take an actor that's good at playing the self centered womanizer; take an actress who's good at playing the lonely tomboy; give them a script that utilizes their strengths and pairs it with witty and fresh dialog and what do you have? I'll tell you what you have; you have one extremely funny, and rewarding, cinematic experience. `Two Weeks Notice' does just that. It pairs the very `British' Hugh Grant with everyone's favorite `train wreck' Sandra Bullock and it allows the two of them to play off one another brilliantly.
Sandra Bullock has been quoted as saying that she is in no hurry to film another romantic comedy because she has already filmed the perfect one; `Two Weeks Notice'. I have to agree (although I thought `While You Were Sleeping' was equally `perfect') for this film is hilarious from start to finish.
The film follows Lucy Kelson, a lawyer who makes it a practice of fighting against large corporations who are bent on tearing down the community to make profit. One such corporation is Wade Industries. When she accosts Wade's posterboy George Wade she finds herself being offered a job. If she takes the job then her precious community center will be spared. She agrees and thus starts the crazy relationship between employer and employee. Lucy soon discovers that working for George is a fulltime job; as in 24-7. When Lucy decides she has had enough she gives George her two-week notice; but quitting Wade proves to be more difficult then Lucy expected.
Like I mentioned, Sandra and Hugh play off one another magnificently. Their humor matches the other beautifully and lends itself to some magical comedic moments. This is one of those pairings that makes complete and total sense; one you wish they would revisit very soon. While Lucy and George are nothing new to Bullock and Grant respectively, the characters seem fresh because they finally have a worthy partner. Hugh Grant and Sandra Bullock compliment one another; they complete one another.
The film also has some worthy supporting characters. Dana Ivey and Robert Klein play Lucy's parents Ruth and Larry and play off one another wonderfully as well. Larry is the concerned and affectionate confidant while Ruth is the challenging opinionated mother who sets expectations for her daughter to reach. Heather Burns (who also stars alongside Bullock in the two `Miss Congeniality' films) plays Lucy's best friend Meryl and while she's not as memorable as she was in `Miss Congeniality' (that may be due to considerably less screen time) she still does a fine job. Stealing the supporting brownie points is Alicia Witt (when is this girl going to get a gig that really emphasizes her talent?!?!) who just mesmerizes as June Carver, the lucky hopeful training to take over Lucy's job.
In the end I must say once again that `Two Weeks Notice' is hysterical. Sure, it is clichéd (but never to a fault) and it is predictable (but in a good way) but it is so genuinely charming and so well constructed that you can't help but enjoy it to the very last drop. Bullock and Grant soar together. Here's to hoping they team up for a sequel (or at least another film).
Another fun and cute Hugh Grant movie!
2007-10-01 - I pretty much own all of Hugh Grant's movies, so this is just another one in my collection, however it is a very cute romantic movie with Hugh providing his typical subtle little one-liners. Sandra Bullock is another of my favorite actresses and the two of them have a wonderful chemistry together. It's just a really great film and it's one that you want to just watch over and over.
