  • Editorial Review:
It's coronation day for the four Jewel Princesses, but where is Princess Roxanne? It seems the young Princess fears the responsibilities and loss of freedom inherent in ruling a kingdom, so she's run away. Faithful servant Twitter follows the Princess and, when she cannot be persuaded to return to the castle, promises to accompany her. The pair is soon set upon by the evil Darklings, who steal the Princess's valuable ruby necklace and then attack a goldsmith and his wife on their way to the coronation. Ever the compassionate soul, the Princess stops to help the couple and they, in turn, lead the Princess to realize that her keen ear and kind heart are qualities destined to make her a great leader. When the foursome discover the Darklings' plot to dupe the King and Queen into crowning an impostor, it's up to the Princess to recover her ruby necklace and stop the coronation. Based on Jahnna N. Malcolm's bestselling book, this wonderful 43-minute video is rich with lush costuming and scenery, and features the talents of Michelle Horn (Lion King 2), Cork Hubbert (Legend), and Harvey Korman (TV's Carol Burnett Show). The abundance of catchy songs is both effective and memorable. Best of all, this thoroughly entertaining video promotes important values such as friendship, self-reliance, responsibility toward others, and personal vision. (Ages 3 to 10) --Tami Horiuchi

The Ruby Princess Runs Away Reviews:
A terrific movie 5 Star Review
2006-06-17 - The dragon was rather poor looking and some of the lines cheesey but otherwise a great movie. The Mysterious forest was terrific and the darklings were nicely done. The songs were great and acters good. This is a terrific movie. My older sisters despise the movie and think the dragon is pathetic, the lines are horrid and the acting is the worst. Me, my brother, and my younger sisters think it is the BEST.

    Worth watching.... 4 Star Review
2002-06-03 - We rented this video from the public library and my 3 and 5 year old girls couldn't get enough of it. It is certainly geared toward the female crowd though with princesses, jewels, and some sentimental singing. And it's a little corny for the parents to sit through too, some really low budget special effects and makeup, but overall it was a good family show. We can't wait for them to come out with another episode. A brief synopsis; The Princess Roxanne and her three sisters are about to go through the coronation ceremony when Roxanne decides she's not ready to rule the Red Mountains and runs away. Out on her own she runs into the Darklings, evil creatures who want to rule the Jewel Kingdom, and they steal her magic ruby pendent. She also befriends Hapgood the Dragon and two jewelers from the Red Mountains who show her what it means to be a real princess. In the end the rag tag group uncover the Darkling plot, rush back to the palace and save the day!

Doesn't do the book justice 2 Star Review
2002-03-21 - I was deeply disappointed in this video especially because all the other reviews were 5 stars. The acting and make-up left alot to be desired. The Ruby Princess sang well, but others in the cast did not. My husband left the room because he found it so nauseating. My 9 year old daughter seemed to enjoyed it, but fast forwarded through most of the musical numbers. She said that the video did not give as much background on the story as she would have liked. The story taught a good lesson and did not contain anything offensive or controversial, but I don't this makes up for the poor quality of the production. In the future we'll stick to the books and let her imagination draw the pictures. Don't waste your money on this one.

A great book makes a great movie!! 5 Star Review
2001-02-20 - My daughter is a longtime fan of the Jewel Kingdom books and I thought we'd try out the movie version of one of them. She absolutely loves it!! I think it's definitely more for children than for adults as I found it a little tiring to watch over and over again, but if there's a child you know who loves this book series, grab this movie!

Jewel Kingdom Delight 5 Star Review
2000-09-15 - My daughter loved the video. She has all twelve of the books in the series and couldn't wait to see the movie. The values and lessons in the story are just another way to re-enforce positive behavior. I would buy all of them if there were more!
