Description of It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie:
Kermit takes center stage in this hilarious, parody-laden celebration of Muppetry, pulsating with original music, a star-studded cast of human cameos, and a heartwarming story reminiscent of It's a Wonderful Life. Joan Cusack plays the deliciously villainous Miss Bitterman, a ruthless banker who succeeds in foreclosing on the Muppet Theatre only days before Kermit's Christmas extravaganza. As Kermit loses his livelihood, he plunges into the "I wish I'd never been born" mind-set instantly recognizable to George Bailey fans. It's going to take some Divine intervention (Whoopi Goldberg is cast as God, no less), plus a little help from a heavenly "Clarence." Despite some moments where the script seems adrift (how hard it must be to live up to the irresistible precedent set by the 1979 premier Muppet Movie) and some humor that borders on risqué, Fozzie and the gang are in fine form. The message is sweet: dreams are as vital to life as loyal friendships are to see them through. (Ages 5 and older) --Lynn Gibson
It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie Reviews:
Disappointing
2008-04-06 - Our family loves all the Muppet movies. However, this one was kind of disappointing. Whoopi Goldberg plays God and agrees to send an angel to help Kermit. Concepts went over the kids heads, movie was sometimes questionable for our family values, and kids got bored. We recommend The Muppets Christmas Carol instead. That is a family favorite!!
an inappropriate disappointment
2008-01-11 - As an elementary school teacher, mother of a five year old and Muppet fan, I was very disappointed in this movie. "It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas" is not appropriate for children. The references to sex, alcohol abuse and strip clubs may be amusing to some adults, but those topics, (even when explored by the well-loved Henson creations), are not appropriate for kids. Jim Henson didn't have to sink to tawdry jokes to delight his audiences. His creativity and silliness were what made his characters funny and loveable for all ages. Do your child a favor and skip this movie.
Sadly Offensive
2007-10-19 - I too would give this movie a "zero" if I could. I was so saddened to see that even the Muppets are no longer sacred. There was nothing charming about this movie. The sexual innuendo was so offensive I almost turned it off, but I kept hoping it would get better. Clearly whoever wrote this doesn't know who the Muppets really are. I would NEVER let my children watch this movie. My gosh, have we really sunk this far when we can't even let our kids watch the Muppets?
Worst muppet movie ever
2007-06-10 - I would give it 0 stars if possible. The acting was horrible--either the actors didn't act that well or overacted. It was choppy and very unfunny in most parts. And I think the story was just too dark for a muppets movie, especially as it was targeted for kids. I just have to say, though, that in one review, someone said that Miss Piggy was a phone call girl. Well, she wasn't. There was one scene that set you up to think that she was, but when she did answer the phone, she was pretending to be a psychic and wore a big wig to get more into her role. I still strongly dislike this movie, but I just wanted the facts straight.
DVD customer
2007-01-19 - My DVD came very quickly and was exactly what I had ordered. I am very pleased.
