  • Editorial Review:
Dive into a comedy adventure that's bigger, better and more absorbing than the rest - the movie debut of that undersea sensation, SpongeBob SquarePants! There's trouble bubbling up in Bikini Bottom, King Neptune's crown is missing, and Mr. Krabs has been accused of stealing it! Together with his best pal Patrick, SpongeBob sets out to treacherous Shell City to reclaim Neptune's crown and save Mr. Krabs, in a spectacular adventure filled with "over-the-top, under-the-sea action and non-stop laughs!"* Featuring the voice talents of Tom Kenny (SpongeBob), Alec Baldwin, Jeffrey Tambor, Scarlett Johansson and a special appearance by David Hasselhoff, The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie is an uproariously funny comedy.

Description of The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie [UMD for PSP]:
How many movies offer the rare spectacle of a parasailing pink starfish flying over a crowd with a congratulatory pennant clenched between his buttcheeks? And that's only the tip of the iceberg--The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie is a freewheeling goof of a cartoon, full of surreal twists as its diminutive heroes head down a dangerous road to rescue the lost crown of King Neptune. SpongeBob (voiced by Tom Kenny), an arrested adolescent in the mold of Pee-wee Herman, works at a fast-food restaurant that serves something called Krabby Patties (as the restaurant owner is himself a crab, it's not clear what exactly they're made of). His best friend Patrick Starfish (Bill Fagerbakke) lives under a rock and has an IQ in the lower digits. Still, their friendship carries them through many a tight spot as they strive for manliness. Anyone seeking a coherent world will be disappointed; in this undersea adventure, things catch on fire or seem to be surrounded by air whenever it's convenient for a gag. The jokes are often more silly than actually funny, but there's an undeniably energetic joviality to the proceedings. Featuring the voices of Scarlett Johansson, Jeffrey Tambor, Alec Baldwin, and a fully fleshed appearance by David Hasselhoff. --Bret Fetzer

The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie [UMD for PSP] Reviews:
Not so much... 2 Star Review
2009-12-06 - I like Spongebob, though not quite as much as my kids. This was an enjoyable, but not exceptional DVD. Around here the measure of a DVD is the encore factor. If they don't play the hell of of it, it isn't all that. (Doesn't explain El Dorado, that gets played far more often than it deserves.) It hasn't been played a second time, even by my 7 year old who watches SB every day. I wouldn't waste the cash on this one, you'll get more enjoyment out of the endless re-runs they play on Nick.

A Cute Collection If You Have The Series On DVD But Nothing Truly Spectacular 4 Star Review
2009-11-27 - After getting the first 100 episodes box set of the show I felt that this movie would be a neat add on to the set, and while it's cute and has a decent storyline after so many years the movie suffers from what other animated shows do it just felt like a hour an a half episode that really had nothing new or really exciting to worry about. The only new thing you'll see in the movie is when Spongebob becomes enraged at Mr. Crabs for passing him over for promotion and after King Neptune's accusations on Mr.Crabs about his theft of King Neptune's crown Spongebob's own less than stellar defense of Mr. Krabs personality Sponebob and his faithful friend Patrick go on a journey to secure the crown and find the real culprit of the theft. Again the movie is of course meant to entertain kids and fans of the show so if you're not a kid and not a fan you'll probably want to pass this movie over since it won't hold to much entertainment for you most likely. The animation is near the recent season so the video and audio are both pretty good and some of the extras are decent to but all in all the movie should really just be seen by fans of the show or kids so again if you're neither than you should just pass the movie over and try something else to your taste...

2004 Spongebob movie on DVD. 3 Star Review
2009-11-06 - The humor is not as sophisticated as some of the adult cartoons that are on the air now, so perhaps, Spongebob is more suited to a younger audience. There was a lot of movement in the animation, making it a little more action orientated as well.

    Not worthy 2 Star Review
2009-10-18 - I'll admit it: I'm a Spongebob junkie. I've seen almost all of the episodes, multiple times. I saw this movie when it came out in theatres with a fellow Spongebob freak. Gosh, we were like 15 and we did not even care.

That being said, I did not care for this movie. The writers make great 12-minute episodes, but apparently nothing good comes from trying to make longer plots. It also has some disturbing parts for younger kids, so I don't even let my niece watch it when it comes on TV. She's a big fan of the episodes as well.

All in all, stick with the original shows.

children's movie review 5 Star Review
2009-09-27 - I just had to get this for my son.He is a huge Spongebob fan,and I have to admit,so am I! After seeing it just once on Nickelodeon,he wanted to watch it over and over again, and now he can!
